They say it’s best to quit while you’re ahead, but Cade McNamara seems determined to defy that notion. The former Michigan QB has surprised everyone with his unconventional move in his seventh season, a decision that feels more like “extra innings” than a typical overtime. Fans don’t seem to like his big move; is it so hard to admire his persistence? Even if most of them believe he’s just trying to extend his time. Regardless of whatever side they are on, McNamara’s journey demonstrates that in college football, the game isn’t truly over until you say.

7th year in college football requires a lot of guts. It’s not every day you see a player showing immense patience and determination like Hawkeye’s quarterback Cade McNamara. After playing for two years with the team, he decided to take his next step, as said by ESPN on December 5th: “Iowa QB Cade McNamara entered the NCAA transfer portal and will look to play a 7th season elsewhere in 2025.” Even if this move is ballsy, fans don’t seem to agree with it as they say, “Really?! Time to get a job and start paying into my Social Security. 😂”

Cade McNamara had a blast while playing for Michigan, and 2021 was one of the best seasons for him in terms of performance and gameplay. He played in all 14 games for the team and also completed 210 out of 327 passes for 2276 yards with 15 touchdowns with just six interceptions. But then, unfortunately, he just appeared in three games in 2022 and ultimately lost his starting QB position to JJ McCarthy.

Which was one of the reasons for his transfer to the Iowa Hawkeyes. But even that didn’t turn out to be Cade’s best decision. Now that he is going to give himself another shot with the 7th year in college football, not a single fan is in favor of it.

Well, sticking to college football for six long years is something that no one can ever make peace with, but thanks to COVID, that impacted the 2020 season, giving players an extra year of eligibility. But even then it takes a lot of patience to continuously show up and put in your best effort to improve your stats, and that’s exactly what Cade McNamara has been doing all this while. However, fans really think this isn’t Cade’s best move and are straightaway trolling him for his decision, saying, “7th season… 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡.🤡🤡🤡”

Last year Cade McNamara opened the season as a starting quarterback for the Iowa team, but then he suffered a season-ending ACL tear five games into the season. This not only took all the playing time from him but also made it difficult to improve his track record, and now if he is finally getting a chance to make a better standing, then what’s wrong with that? But all fans could do was compare him with JJ McCarthy, saying, “JJ McCarthy will have recovered from knee surgery & take NFL reg season snaps b4 Cade leaves college ball 😬.”

Cade McNamara had his own struggles playing college football; even after recovering from the ACL injury, he suffered another health setback during their game against Northwestern in the form of a concussion. But fans are like, Hit Cade when he is at his lowest, saying such mean things like, “7th season? Is he studying to be a doctor?” Even if not a doctor, for sure a better player.

There is no denying the fact that Cade McNamara had his disappointing two years playing on the Iowa team. During his time with the team, he only completed 150 out of 262 passes for 1522 yards with 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. But then we can also not overlook the fact that Cade won a Big Ten championship title as a starting quarterback playing for Michigan. Maybe fans should do some fact-checks before making such harsh comments: “Bro is going to have grandkids when he graduates at this rate.” Now that Cade is moving towards his new journey, let’s hope he makes the most out of it.
