Home/College Football

Looks like the college football athletes are now abiding by one motto. ‘No feeling is final.’ Ever since the transfer portal opened its gates, the players have made the most use of the opportunity. They have swapped wagons and found their new home. But there is someone who is now set to look for his next home within weeks. That’s none other than the former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Johntay Cook II. Fans thought he was happy with the Washington Huskies. That’s when he chose to startle them by making a U-turn to the portal.

One of the biggest blows to Texas Longhorns HC Steve Sarkisian this transfer season came from his WR Cook. Listed at 6-foot, 186 pounds as a sophomore, the Longhorns picked him up as he was a five-star recruit out of DeSoto High School in the 2023 class. However, the Lone Star native had made a marginal impact in Austin. He played in 20 games over a span of two seasons. Within that, he caught 16 targets for 273 yards and came up with two touchdowns. So maybe he was looking for a break to unleash his potential. That’s when back in December he committed to Jedd Fisch’s Huskies. However, Cook is not ready to hit the settle button yet!

As reported by 247 Sports’ Scott Eklund, the young chap is parting ways with Washington. Meanwhile, fans are still figuring out why he left the Sarkisian’s powerhouse. News broke on November 7 that Cook was no longer part of the Longhorns program. Right after that, Orangebloods analyst duo Anwar Richardson and Geoff Ketchum revealed that the player was shown the door as things were not going well between him and the staff. Richardson shared, “I’m getting information that he got into it with somebody on the staff.”

The news of him leaving Sarkisian’s hood started to do the rounds. On Instagram, On3 too posted the news. The comment section of the post had some surprises. It was Cook who commented, “bounce back gon be crazy.” And what about this time?

Maybe Cook is still in search of a program that feels like home. In search of a safe space where he will be able to prove himself. Looks like this time, until he is absolutely sure about his next stop, he is not going to open his mouth. After all, the young chap has always been vocal about his views.

It was Johntay Cook II who did not inch back before taking a shot at Steve Sarkisian’s star quarterback, Quinn Ewers. As soon as the signal-caller started to get all the attention for his $6 million NIL offer and making a return to college next season, Cook dropped his expert opinion. He wrote in a tweet, “Wasting y’all money [for real].” However, later on, the tweet was deleted. Fans now await the closure from Cook about his brief Washington chapter.
