An unexpected story developed in Aggieland. Texas A&M rejoiced when they brought home the No. 3 overall player from the transfer portal. Everyone already pictured him joining Kevin Concepcion, Jonah Wilson, and Mario Craver to turn OC Collin Klein’s offense into a formidable one. But we need to burst a bubble, for this former Texas Tech WR isn’t staying or leaving either.
On January 17, Texas insider Beau Richmont dropped a bombshell on X on new Texas A&M acquisition Micah Hudson. The report read, “BREAKING: Former 5* and Texas Tech WR receiver Micah Hudson has stepped away from football, and is no longer on the Texas A&M roster.” The reason wasn’t initially reported, but it’s surfacing now. The former unanimous 5-star recruit is “currently dealing with mental health issues and an inability to adjust well in College Station.”

On3’s Pete Nakos first reported the news that Micah Hudson will be temporarily stepping away from regular football activities. This unexpected decision came just a month after his transfer to Texas A&M as one of their best hauls on December 15. Reports also stated that he’ll be welcomed back when he’s ready to play.
His interest in Aggieland had always been there because they were among his top schools before he ultimately chose the Red Raiders for the 2024 season as the No. 12 player in the country, the No. 4 WR, and the No. 4 player in the state of Texas.
Anyone would have guessed Micah Hudson got plenty of time to play in Texas Tech this past season. But that’s the opposite. It had been an underwhelming season where he appeared in only five games where he caught eight passes for 123 yards. However, the 6’0, 195-pounder could have a breakout season in 2025 with the Aggies for all we know.
Still, nothing’s certain. He could surface as a rising star or fall into the depths of criticism. But everyone has personal problems to deal with, and for him to prioritize his mental health shows his responsible and mature mindset. Be all in, or don’t be in at all. As for the Aggies, they still look good heading into 2025.

Texas A&M has a stellar 2025 class
As far as recruiting goes, Texas A&M is among the top ten classes in 2025. The Aggies brought in 25 commits and 13 transfers to top the nation at No. 8. Among the commits are two blue-chip 5-star recruits—OT Lamont Rogers and WR Jerome Myles—16 4-star commits, and seven 3-star players. And they’re already settling down in College Station.
Just last weekend, all these commits and transfers of the 2025 class moved to their dorms. And they’re also off to a great start building for the future. The Aggies hosted their first Junior Day of the year on Saturday, where they welcomed 11 2026 class players and four 2027 class players.

The prospect is bright for Texas A&M. Hopefully, a successful season will serve as a consistent motivation for Micah Hudson, who will strive to fight and stand for the Aggies.
