Can Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter lead Colorado to a surprise Big Twelve Championship win?

The Colorado Buffaloes can make it to a Big-12 championship game. With a continuous bout against the fans and the media, the Buffaloes have been fighting for the opportunity to showcase their talents this year. Deion and his team are more often known as a program that sits atop a mountain of hype and nothing else. But with a revamped roster and vital additions to the team, Colorado could drop jaws on the floor and rack up good scores on the board. Still don’t believe the hype? Maybe this is the season where Shedeur’s watch-flexing is used in the right scenario, which is set to be the Buffaloes against the haters.

The Joel Klatt Show released an episode on August 12th where the host was seen discussing the top teams for playoff contenders, ranging from Ohio State to the Michigan Wolverines. Among all these elite teams, the fans least expected Coach Prime’s Buffaloes to be a part of the list, but Klatt chose to separate himself from the popular hate-on-Colorado narrative. Then again, Klatt is a former QB for the Colorado Buffaloes, which could be a reason for his partialism, but there’s still no denying the fact that there are a lot of expectations from the team this season.

The term “dark horse” usually refers to an unexpected winner, but when it comes to the Colorado Buffaloes, it might just be outrageous if they potentially go all the way. Klatt praised the team’s “skill position players” starting with how he’s “got these two dark horses” and noted Shedeur and Travis Hunter‘s dynamic when he said that Colorado “might have the best quarterback in the entire league.”

Furthermore, he added their progress from 2022 to 2023 and said, “This is a team that went from one win to four, threw away a couple of other wins, and should have been a bull team last year. This team, I think, is an eight or nine-win team, which puts them in the conversation in a deep quality league for a potential bid to the Big 12 championship game.” Say what you may, out of all the teams this season, the Buffaloes are set to have the most set of eyes on them, and in the unexpected scenario of the team making it to the playoffs or even winning the championship, it might just be the biggest story to come out of college football in recent history as one of the most unfavorable candidates to win the trophy. With that being said, here is what Shedeur Sanders plans to improve upon going into the 2024 season, with a different style altogether.

There’s no way Shedeur is getting sacked 52 times this year

Shedeur Sanders was undoubtedly one of the best quarterbacks last season and even ranked at the 10th position for the Heisman Trophy, before eventually losing out to LSU’s Jayden Daniels. Yet, that doesn’t take away from the fact that the QB was sacked a national record of over 52 times last year, which put things in perspective about Colorado’s poor O-line and also Shedeur’s lack of ability to get rid of the ball quickly. Now that he’s stepping into the Folsom Stadium as a Buff for his last year, Shedeur is going to make drastic changes to his playing style, which will prevent him from being laid out flat on the green so often.

On 6th August, the ‘2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders’ podcast released its latest episode which featured the other two Sanders brothers, Shilo and Deion Sanders Jr. In a segment where they were discussing Shedeur being sacked 52 times in 2023, the QB spoke in great detail about how he is focusing on improving his footwork. He said, “I would definitely say, one, really just working on footwork and everything, and rhythm, knowing the pre-snap, knowing actually the post-snap reality of what’s going to happen. Just throughout the play, just go through progressions, and work on footwork, really.” Thus, Shedeur and Travis will be the biggest weapons in Colorado’s arsenal in their fight toward redemption and defeating all their foes in their path to the Big 12 championship game.
