Is Travis Hunter's $2.7M valuation proof that college athletes are finally getting their due?

Travis Hunter is everywhere! The Colorado Buffs two-way star started this season with such fire that he’s constantly on many people’s minds. With the “glitch” performance he executed in their season opener against North Dakota State, the world recognized the true potential of Hunter. Under the spotlight, he tried to remain grounded but his talent didn’t go unnoticed and he snagged the spotlight again!

In February, $2M Jaxson Dart inked a major NIL deal with Nicholas Air, making it the first NIL contract with a major airline company. Likewise, Hunter’s star power soared, allowing him to follow in the Ole Miss QB’s footsteps. Already one of the top NIL earners with ₹2.7 million on On3, Hunter just signed a major deal with an airline company.

Travis Hunter announced an NIL contract with United Airlines. To celebrate the achievement, We Coming shared the post on X on September 6 which featured a reel of the WR/CB breaking moves at the airport. The post first appeared on Hunter’s Instagram and the airline’s post, which was captioned, “Just a reminder that I can play more than 1 position.”

This undisclosed deal will see Travis Hunter appearing in campaigns and social media platforms for United Airlines throughout the year. Unsurprisingly, both parties already had a connection since last season’s opener against TCU. But Hunter’s season debut performance had been quite remarkable that he not only won the airline’s favor as a worthy face for the company, but he even earned ‘The Glitch’ title by the video game he covered.

EA Sports CFB 25 names Travis Hunter the glitch

Travis Hunter recorded seven receptions for 132 yards and three of the four touchdowns for Colorado. On defense, he hauled in three tackles. But when he executed his last 3-yard touchdown with a one-handed fingertip catch while being tackled by the Bisons defender, ESPN commentator Roddy Jones called out, “That’s unbelievable. That’s a glitch in EA Sports College Football 25.” EA Sports took this comment a notch higher by later posting a picture of Travis Hunter with the in-picture caption, ‘The Glitch’.

Already a first-round prospect, Travis Hunter’s incredible plays raised his NFL draft stock. As per Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department’s latest 2024 mock draft, the Buffs standout is the No. 1 overall pick. He also gave the world more reason why he should be the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner. But the upcoming games will come with its ups and downs. Will Hunter play with the same fiery spirit in the Week 2 game against Nebraska on Saturday?
