Boy, oh boy, are things not going as planned for Billy Napier and the Gators? The season opener for Napier and his team was a disaster. Despite having a solid roster, Napier and the boys went 17-41 against Miami. What followed was a long list of jabs directed towards Napier and his failure to manage the team well. And if that wasn’t enough, the kids on the Hurricanes roster decided to sway some of the Florida recruits away to Miami after the match was over.
However, Justin David Kish brings us the news that a recruiting assistant for the Gators was seen coming between the Miami players and stopping them before they caused some major damage. “A Florida Gators recruiting assistant was seen putting her hands and pushing away players of the Miami Hurricanes as the players attempted to sway the decision of Gator recruits,” Kish noted in the caption of his post. While Billy Napier himself has not made any comments regarding this entire scene, the future ain’t looking bright for the Gators. It’s kind of funny to think that Miami is trying to take away recruits from Florida because Billy Napier had also done the same with Jaden Rashada. What Napier allegedly did was lure Rashada away from other programs by telling the kid that he would get a $13.85 million NIL contract. The money never showed up and Rashada proceeded to file a lawsuit.

History is repeating here folks. Although no money or scams are involved this time. With the opener out of the way, the rest of the schedule for Napier and his team is not looking all that promising. The main takeaway from the entire match against Miami was that Napier still has to go a long way to improve the team’s defense and offense lines. Also, the passing and rushing yards were a mess for the Gators. However, as the HC plans out what he is going to do next, another blow is waiting for him right around the corner.
Billy Napier is going to lose his best QB
Back on September 1st, we got the news from Blaise Ingoglia on X that QB DJ Lagway has decided to hit the transfer portal. Now why is this such a major blow to the Gators? Well, DJ has already locked in more than 4500 yards under his felt. His completion rate is bonkers and stands at 72%. If that wasn’t enough, the kid has managed to lock in 58 TDs.
Even legendary Gators player Tim Tebow had called DJ “special” for the team. If DJ slips away and Napier doesn’t do anything about it then he would be losing a star from the team. The entire weight of carrying the roster would then fall on QB Graham Mertz who is yet to show any glimpse of greatness. Let’s hope Napier manages to guide his team out of this great depression.
