There’s something cooking down South—and it ain’t crawfish this time. Word on the street is one of LSU’s crown jewels, a walking highlight reel from Mississippi, might just be letting his eye wander. Look, we aren’t saying there’s a fire, but… there’s definitely smoke. Real SEC smoke. We got insiders talking tea, visits happening behind the curtain, and one coach straight sweating through his polo in Baton Rouge. Yeah, we’re talking about Tristen Keys. Mr. No. 1 Wide Receiver. The No. 3 Overall Prospect. Mr. I-Can-Choose-Any-School-I-Want. In March, this five-star phenom shook the college football world by pledging allegiance to Brian Kelly’s LSU Tigers over the likes of Bama, Auburn, and Tennessee. It was a power move that locked the Tigers into the No. 1 spot in the 2026 recruiting rankings. LSU had the juice. But now? That grip isn’t as tight.

Because guess who just crept back into the picture? Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers. Josh Newberg sat down with Auburn insider Jeffrey Lee on April 6th, and let’s just say… it got juicy. “Since his commitment to LSU, I think he’s been to Ole Miss, he’s been to A&M, he’s going to take official visits everywhere else,” Lee said. “Auburn’s still kinda in it—like he’s keeping them alive. But as far as a dramatic or significant impact on his recruitment, I don’t think so…I didn’t make much of him coming to Auburn on Saturday… but him and Deuce Knight? They’re pretty close.” Yeah, there’s a connection there…

Deuce Knight—yup, the elite 5-star quarterback from Mississippi. Tristen’s homie. Teammates on the 7-on-7 circuit. Brothers in arms. These two aren’t just cool; they’re connected like Bluetooth. Tristen rolled into Auburn Friday night, chilled with Deuce, caught the Tigers’ scrimmage Saturday, and watched his boy deal. That’s no casual pop-in. That’s what we call groundwork.

“There’s really good relationships with Hugh Freeze, with Marcus Davis,” Lee added. “Does Auburn have a chance to flip him? For sure, they’ve got a chance. And he’ll be back for an OV. But you know, it’s April, Josh.” See, Jeffrey isn’t ringing the alarm—yet. But he’s also not ignoring the sirens. Tristen’s still locked in with LSU… for now. But Brian Kelly knows how these things go. One spring visit becomes two. Then a surprise game-day pop-up. And before you know it, a purple-and-gold future turns orange and blue.

LSU can’t afford that. Not when Tristen is probably their only out-of-state gem in a class full of Louisiana boys. He’s the face of the 2026 class right now—the poster child. A loss like that would hit harder than a Cam Newton stiff-arm. LSU’s class is still sitting pretty at No. 1 with a 94.17 score, ahead of USC and Oregon, and it’s anchored by Tristen, 4-stars Kenny Darby, and Jakai Anderson. But you yank out the top dog, and suddenly the whole structure shakes. Josh Newberg nailed it: “Need to see him on campus a couple more times. But if it does happen, we can look back on this spring visit and say—that maybe that was the turning point in this recruitment.”

Will Tristen Keys' loyalty to LSU hold, or is Auburn about to pull off a major coup?

Brian Kelly and LSU’s spring camp schedule—all eyes on Death Valley

While Kelly is trying to keep his commits from flirting with the competition, he’s also opening up the house. LSU is rolling out the purple carpet for fans at Death Valley on April 12. No spring game this year—but they have a whole vibe planned instead.

Doors open at 9:30 a.m.; scrimmage kicks off at 10:35. There’s no TV, no radio—just boots on the ground, old-school football energy. After the Tigers bang pads for a bit, fans will get to run it back with the squad on the field. Autographs, selfies with Coach Kelly, commemorative posters—all that good stuff. The autograph session, hosted by Bayou Traditions, is where fans can meet the stars of tomorrow. Just one item per fan, though. Don’t come in with a suitcase full of helmets. And definitely don’t try sneaking in coolers, cups, or flasks—you will get stopped.

This event isn’t just for show—it’s a recruiting flex. Kelly knows every snap, every handshake, every grin on that field is a pitch to the next five-star. And if Tristen Keys shows his face again? Yeah, then we got ourselves a sequel to this spring saga. The spotlight’s hot. The stakes are as high as the Baton Rouge sky. And Brian Kelly? He’s got one eye on the field and the other on his phone, hoping no more visits pop up on Tristen Keys’ socials.
