That’s how life beats you at your lowest of lows! Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes might be still struggling to overcome the trauma of their 13-10 loss landed by Sherrone Moore’s Michigan Wolverines. Just when Day got busy trying to save his job from the fire, someone fueled the blaze. It’s none other than the 5-star prospect David Sanders Jr. Till the very last minute, the athlete kept Day and the Buckeyes on their toes, giving them hopes to join Ohio State. Turns out, those were nothing but only false hopes! David Sanders Jr. made his final call and signed up with the program that Day was most scared of—their rivals. And he is already getting red-carpet treatment there.
Well, Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers had their eyes on Sanders Jr. for quite a long time now. Back in August, the athlete had already given his word to Tennessee, although Ohio State’s recruiting efforts were strong. However, Sanders Jr. thought of giving the Buckeyes one last chance as he thought of paying a visit to The Horseshoe for the Ohio State vs. Indiana matchup. That has indeed been a big game for the Buckeyes, as they crushed the Hoosiers 38-15.
While Sanders Jr.’s signing day was due in December, by that time Day’s Buckeyes underwent a mishap. Well, you can already guess it! The November 29 face-off against the Wolverines, where Ohio State got thrashed badly and accepted a 13-10 defeat. That might have been the turning point for Sanders Jr. to seal the deal with the good ol’ Vols. And it’s evident how he is all happy now from his latest tweet that read, “Absolutely violating 😂😂 Let’s work though 🤞🏿”

It’s selfie time for Sanders Jr. as the 5-star recruit put up his signature grin and struck a pose with Kevin Pendleton, the Assistant Offensive Line coach for Tennessee. The coach is already excited to have the athlete on their team. And it’s obvious from the caption how it has been a long wait for Heupel’s army, as he wrote, “@DavidLSandersJr been a long time comin😂 just the beginning young fella! #GBO🍊.” Why so much celebration all of a sudden? Well, Sanders Jr. stayed loyal to the Vols and signed with Tennessee on December 5, Thursday. And how is Day dealing with the loss?

ESPN analyst’s critique adds to Ryan Day’s pressure holding the hot seat
Well, the Buckeyes HC definitely does not have much time to brood over Sanders Jr.’s Vols journey. He is rather busy saving his job. Looking at how low Ohio State had stooped, fans had already raised a demand for the comeback of their former HC Urban Meyer to abandon his broadcast career and hold the reins of the program. After all, Meyer, who coached the Buckeyes for six years from 2012 to 2018, even led the team to a national championship in 2014.
Forget the national championship; with Day, it looks like Ohio State won’t be going anywhere. But sadly Meyer no longer wishes to be back, as he clarified, “It has come to my attention that there are reports speculating my return to the sidelines in Columbus. While I thoroughly enjoyed my seven seasons as head coach at the Ohio State University, I have no interest in coaching again.”

And how could the greatest critic in college football let go of this big chance by not making his expert commentary? Here entered the ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum. Without mincing his words, he stated, “He [Ryan Day] has zero good will in Columbus, Ohio, right now. A national championship will get a lot back, but short of that, I think he’s history.” Now Ryan Day’s crown must be feeling a lot heavier than before with such heavy blames!
