Lamar Brown is a much-anticipated prospect of the 2026 class who is regularly compared to Travis Hunter. Standing at 6 feet 3.5 inches tall and weighing around 285 pounds, he is rated 5 stars by major rating agencies like On3 and 247 Sports. So much is his demand in the football market that the player till now has amassed around 30 scholarship offers and has been the centerpiece of attention from colleges the likes of Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, and Florida State.

Brown plays as an interior offensive tackle and has also played as a defensive lineman in his high school. In a sense, he is regularly called a two-way star like Travis Hunter. These multitalented skill sets have him ranked 11th nationally and 1st in his IOL position. But the interesting thing is that the player himself hasn’t made his decision or any commitment yet. However, his recent statement may hint at his potential destination.

Brown was asked during an interview by On3 about his favorite destination where he wants to play. “LSU is a little above A&M at No. 1; Florida State and Miami are tied after those two at the top.” His statement should also be taken with the added context that the player is also a student at LSU. But he is a high school kid, right? Of course, he is. However, he is currently a student at Louisiana State University Laboratory High School (Baton Rouge). That means that he has added sentiment attached to LSU, and eventually, it may make it an easy decision for him to pick LSU. Matt Moscona of Locked on LSU provided another update on the prospect.

LSU is in a slight lead right now over Texas A&M, so can’t sign until December. We’re still 10 months away from Lamar Brown making it official wherever he’s going to play college football, but as of right now, the hometown Tigers have the advantage.” Surely, LSU does not have the official commitment from the player; still, he has time and again shown love for the job LSU and Brian Kelly are doing at Baton Rouge. For those who don’t believe. Hear this.

In another statement, Brown highlighted the job the D-line coach at LSU, Bo Davis, and Edge coach, Kevin Peoples, are doing.  “Since then, it has shifted to where I talk a lot to Coach Davis and Coach Peoples,” Brown said. “I have great relationships with the coaching staff. I feel comfortable here; my mom feels comfortable, and that is why LSU is high on my list.”

For context, the player recently explored the possibility of playing as a two-star, both on the D line and interior O line. His request, it appears, has been enthusiastically accepted by both the coaches. Hence the praise. So, the next question is when he is making his official visit.

Is Lamar Brown locked on LSU?

Shea Dixon of On3 provided the update on Locked on LSU about the visits the player is going to undertake to various programs in the future. “No matter where he plays now, he’s got some official visit scheduled. He said he wants to announce this summer, but he’s been pretty outspoken recently about LSU and the impact they’ve made. Brian Kelly went over with his staff in January when they could do in-person visits and sat with him for a while at the high school on LSU’s campus, and I just feel like, for a local kid, they’ve prioritized him for so long.” Surely, being a local kid and that too from the same university has its inherent benefits, and LSU is doing just that. But don’t think for a moment that he has locked in on LSU, and here’s why.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Lamar Brown's LSU ties outweigh the allure of other top programs like Alabama and Texas A&M?

Have an interesting take?

He does have his official visit scheduled to LSU in June this year. But he also has his visit scheduled at Texas A&M on 13th June 2025, as per On3. Furthermore, he also has previously visited colleges like Alabama and Georgia on unofficial visits. Undoubtedly, he is exploring various options to secure the most favorable NIL package. And that’s why he will also visit Miami Hurricanes and Florida State in May and June this year, respectively. Does that mean that he has changed his stance on Lincoln Riley?

Well, that may be the case, as earlier he had hinted at joining the Trojans too and praised Riley too in a tweet about another USC’s recent commit, Trovon Reed. He said, “Just made everything easier for me.” These flirtations with different programs only mean one thing: the player knows about his worth, and he will get the best deal possible for himself.
