Shedeur Sanders’s era in Boulder is over. He couldn’t end it in style, clinching a much sought-after Valero Alamo bowl win for his team, but the heroics shined through regardless of a defeat. Because what Deion’s kid put together for his dad and teammates was second to none. With his college career officially wrapped up, Sanders is now ready to bring his talent to the NFL. He is widely expected to be one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. But before leaving for a higher path, he left his memory forever imprinted in the Buffs’ locker room and was cherished by none other than his successor, Julian Lewis.

Colorado incoming freshman and class of 2025 4-star quarterback promised Shedeur and the fans to carry the torch forward, but he knows he might have to do it without claps.

Lewis showcased his steadfast inclination to USC before he de-committed from the program last month. Just within a week, he made up his mind on Colorado and officially jumped ship. He will likely be competing for the Buffaloes’ starting job with Liberty transfer quarterback Kaidon Salter, but we can expect a lot more from the resilient Carrollton High School alumna. As it’s time to take charge after Shedeur left the building, would-be Buff paid a heart-melting tribute on social media.

Posting a locker room snap of Shedeur’s jersey, Lewis wrote, ‘‘You left huge shoes to fill, but I promise to work to leave @CUBuffsFootball even better than I found it. Forever grateful #TrustGod #TrustTheProcess.” But there is more to the drama. A fan cheered the kid up, saying, ”Be great, young man! We’re all rooting for you! #SkoBuffs.” In a shocking response, Lewis wrote,No they’re not but that’s ok. #KeepWorking.”

Can you smell something? Well, yes, Lewis knows that his path in Boulder won’t be a bed of roses, and not everyone will be there clapping for him. Of course, looking at how closely he followed Shedeur Sanders’ career, he must be aware of the kind of criticism that the Buffs No. 2 faced, especially this season. The media attacked him for calling out his O-line earlier in the season. Even the ex-players didn’t refrain from using harsh words for a young kid who has a bright future ahead of him.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Julian Lewis fill Shedeur Sanders' shoes, or will the Buffs struggle without Coach Prime's son?

Have an interesting take?

Some of the criticism was because of Shedeur’s game; however, most of it is because Shedeur plays for Coach Prime’s team and his son. One of them applies to Lewis as well. Being Deion Sanders’ QB1 won’t be an easy task. He’d have every defense trying to prove a point by performing against the Buffs. However, Julian Lewis knows what he’s capable of. He will do his work regardless and vouches for a better Colorado Buffs with all he has. ”The ultimate tough guy syndrome” that the Buffs were looking for, maybe.

Coach Prime won’t have his kids around in 2025, and it’s not a familiar feeling for the 57-year-old. But no matter what, he continues to do the very best for the Colorado Buffs, and

Julian Lewis is largely expected to be his next guy.

Lewis has already started oozing out die-hard loyalty for his new school as he made an effort to root for the Buffs in their post-season contention. The 17-year-old sat back and watched Colorado suffer a 36-14 loss to BYU in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday night. Sanders threw for 208 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions on 16-of-23 passing in the loss. Lewis didn’t regret his decision but solidified his commitment even more with an urge to do better for the team. It’s safe to say that he will fulfill his aspirations with Deion Sanders having his back next.

Deion Sanders recently shared his thoughts on Julian Lewis. In a video shared on social media, Sanders spoke highly of his approaching a man of the hour, who has been practicing with Shedeur in preparation for the Alamo Bowl. That young man is phenomenal. He’s a really good quarterback, he’s got all the intangibles. The kid’s a winner,” Sanders said.

The video captured a beautiful transition between the past and future and how well Lewis and Shedeur glide into that role. Lewis has learned from one of the best as he prepares to lead Colorado in the future.
