Billy Napier needs to improve and improve fast; for that, he will need recruits, good coaches to support him, and a transfer portal strategy that mimics Notre Dame under Chad Bowden. In that regard, they have roped in some very good prospects but still haven’t quite found their rhythm in the recruiting game (ranked 11th in the 2025 class). We are more or less used to seeing Gators losing prospects from their grasps over the years, which is something that looks to be happening with one of their 5-star prospects, too. A player to whom they extended an offer back in October 2024.
Jorden Edmonds is a highly sought-after 5-star cornerback prospect of the 2026 class. A player who has got the two-way talent like Travis Hunter to play both as a receiver and as a cornerback. His performance at the Under Armour Atlanta Camp earned him the tag of ‘Alpha Dog’ as he finished his 2024 season with 32 receptions for 648 yards, scoring 4 TDs. On the defensive side, he executed 30 tackles and 1 TFL. His talent on both sides of the ball is something teams have their eyes on. One of those teams is Alabama.
The player has so far received 43 offers in total, with major colleges like Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia after him. Edmonds is now slated to visit Alabama this weekend to watch the Tide practice. It is also reported that the player has quite a close relationship with the coaching staff at Alabama and even said that to On3. “Alabama and I have a great connection. Coach Mo (Maurice Linguist) is one of the best. He knows me well; he has recruited me hard, and we have that trust.”

That being said, Georgia is another team that hasn’t budged down yet in his recruitment, and Kirby Smart is turning every stone to land him. Edmonds will also be visiting Georgia after his visit to Tuscaloosa. He even praised Donte Williams (DB Coach) and was in awe about Georgia’s program too. “The coaching staff at Georgia stands out. The relationships with coach Donte Williams, coach Prather, and coach Smart are strong. We have good conversations, and I like what the coaches at Georgia have to say.”
Surely the player isn’t locking down his target that easy for now, as he has another visit to Tennessee scheduled on March 29 at their campus. His official visits are, however, lined up in June, when he will be making the visit to Athens on May 30. His visit to Tennessee will be on June 13, and he will finally visit Alabama on June 20. Till then, it seems, his flirting with different programs will go on, and only then could we see any official commitment. The player even expanded on it.

When will Jorden Edmonds commit?
Most of the reports undoubtedly pick the Sprayberry High School prospect to be going to Alabama. On3 even has them listed at 95.4% and Georgia at just 2.7%. However, his commitment will go beyond numbers and predictions. Since he is a native of Georgia, the proximity to Athens will undoubtedly play its part. Nevertheless, the player himself has now outlined the trajectory of his commitment.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Billy Napier turn the tide for the Gators, or will top recruits keep slipping away?

“I want to take these unofficial visits this spring, then see how I feel,” Edmonds told On3. “I am not sure if I will wait for my official visits to make my decision or not. It will be about how I feel after I take these unofficial visits. I am still evaluating everything and making sure I look over my options before I commit.”

Standing at 6 feet and 2 1/2 and 175 lbs, he could follow in the footsteps of players like Travis Hunter. He has everything that would be needed in a CB and a WR. His exposure to different sets of schemes and ability to play efficiently in man coverages set him apart. In terms of his WR production, he surely has that physical edge and on-point catch ability. Furthermore, his potential to shut down a whole side of the field and block those incisive runs may favor him to play at CB exclusively. And it likely trending towards just that.
