Can Georgia pull off a recruiting coup by flipping DJ Pickett from LSU's grasp?

Three weeks until signing day! It’s that time of the year when prospective college football players commit and flip. With 5-star WR Caleb Cunningham flipping his commitment to Ole Miss from Alabama on November 13, few more such moves from the commits are expected. And one particular player we’re keeping an eye on is LSU commit DJ Pickett

Dawgs HQ insider Rusty Mansell joined Josh Newberg in a new YouTube episode on On3 Recruits on November 14. The pair discussed Georgia’s recruitment standing as Mansell highlighted the big names that the Bulldogs are targeting. He said, “Georgia stopped in on DJ Pickett down in South Florida, the LSU commit. Many people think he’s the No. 1 corner in America. Obviously that would be a massive deal if Georgia really got in the game, get him to campus, see what happens.”

Rusty Mansell teased that the 5-star Zephyrhills CB could visit Georgia’s next game against No. 7 Tennessee, although it isn’t 100% confirmed. But it would be a huge win for them to secure this dual-threat player who is rated as the No. 2 CB in the 2025 class. The 6’4, 180-pounder recorded 31 tackles and an interception on defense and 52 passes for 1,033 yards and 15 touchdowns on offense last season.

Georgia will look to get in the mix with a campus visit. “If you can get him to campus, you’re in the game. It’s going to be tough to beat LSU and I know Miami’s really in there too but never hurts to get a player in environment like he’s going to see Saturday night,” Mansell said. But the problem for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs is that in addition to his LSU commitment, the Hurricanes are also in relentless pursuit of this No. 8 overall player.

In July, DJ Pickett chose LSU over programs like Oregon and Miami. But even so, Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes didn’t give up in their pursuit of the coveted athlete. Pickett has ties with Miami as his cousin also plays for the Hurricanes. Steve Wiltfong of On3 previously said, “Mario Cristobal has been relentless in his communication. But I think the push is only going to continue as you get close to the early signing period in December.” The Canes fell for the first time this season after their last 28-23 loss to Georgia Tech.

But wait, let’s not leave LSU out of the picture. DJ Pickett was present in Baton Rouge last Saturday when the Tigers lost 42-13 to Alabama. While the game result wasn’t very encouraging, it’s a different story with his experience as Wiltfong reported, “I talked to his dad Damien this morning about the visit. Outside of the outcome of the game, they had a fabulous time.” It looks like his father wants him to be Brian Kelly. Still, another tricky situation is that Pickett is expected to attend the upcoming Florida vs LSU game on Saturday. But the grim fact for the Tigers is that the Sunshine State native is visiting as a Gators guest.
