The recruiting game is heating up as we proceed to the Spring portal window, shuffling and shortlisting the best picks for each program to add to their upcoming year class. The top five-star receiver of 2026 is undergoing the trend and juggling between schools for months before making a final call. This week, he progressed by narrowing down his choices to six schools, including Georgia, Florida, Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, and Colorado. While he scheduled official visits to the first five schools, the Buffs have been left behind at the bar until now. But no more agony for Deion Sanders and the Buffs.
It seems Colorado has the stars in their favor in the last 24 hours. On Thursday, Deion Sanders received some massive news with Class of 2026 five-star wide receiver Jase Mathews as he decided to come to Boulder for an official visit on May 9-11. Within a day, another piece of uplifting news hit the house. Colorado has another official visit lined up, this time for Class of 2026 five-star wide receiver Cederian Morgan.
Alexander City (Ala.) Benjamin Russell, five-star wide receiver, announced that he will be off to Boulder to weigh his chance with the Colorado Buffs. Not only that, the kid said in an astonishing intel that the Buffs are gaining an edge in his recruitment, and they are not just another regular school on the list. “I’m looking forward to meeting their coaching staff & feeling their energy,” Morgan said. “They are sitting as one of the tops in my recruitment.”

Cederian Morgan has an impressive stat under his belt as a junior for Benjamin Russell High. The kid had 70 passes for 1,162 yards and 14 scores. He also flaunts head-turning skills in track and field, hitting 6’4 in the high jump as a sophomore. He possesses a unique blend of size, speed, and athleticism that makes him stand out in his resume and cement his status as a premier recruit.
Heading to the spring, Alabama and Auburn have been considered the frontrunners for Cederian Morgan. The Internet has already pitted him in with that school, citing it’s just a matter of time before the in-state Alabama talent commits to Alabama or the fellow SEC giant, Auburn Tigers. But things aren’t going to move in that straight line. The No. 1 player in Alabama, the No. 2 wide receiver in the country, doesn’t at all give the Tide any edge on the ground of home state recruitment.
Cederian Morgan keeps Alabama hanging in the balance with a neutral stance
”I don’t care if I stay in state or go out of state. I am going to take my time, sort things out, and see where I need to be. Communication is really big for me. Playing for coaches that can help me get to the next level is big too,” Cederian Morgan said in a previous interview with ON3. “I will keep talking to schools, take my official visits next year, and find the school I need to be at.”

Is Colorado's sudden recruitment success a sign of Deion Sanders' growing influence in college football?

While he is not in a place to consider the proximity a factor in his recruitment race, offering Alabama and Kalen DeBoer a reason to relax, he has huge respect for Kaelen DeBoer and the high-octane Alabama offense. Ever since DeBoer took the reins from Nick Saban, people tend to blame any recruitment slump on him. But this time, it’s the reverse. Cederian Morgan seemingly has no issues with the new DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa.
”He is a really good coach, a really cool coach. He fits the playing style I like, swinging the ball around, taking shots, and he’s really good at it. He’s been the best at it for a long time, and he likes to throw the ball. He has sent a lot of great receivers and quarterbacks to the league.” said Morgan, back when he visited the school to see them excel over Georgia in a thrilling 41-34 victory mid-season. The game was particularly important for DeBoer to impress Morgan as the Crimson Tide won it thanks to a Jalen Milroe dime to WR Ryan Williams in the dying minutes of the 4th quarter.
It will be interesting to see which school he finally lands in, ending a crazy recruitment saga, and how the future pans out for the standout Alabama receiver.
