Jalen Milroe has triggered the interest of a $5.3 billion NFL team! From seeing Nick Saban off to welcoming Kalen DeBoer, he tasted both the past and future of Alabama football. His 2024 season performance made him somewhat of a polarizing QB prospect but his potential can’t be overlooked. And perhaps, that’s one reason why Mike Tomlin’s squad is locked on the Crimson Tide QB.
Could Jalen Milroe find a new home with the Pittsburgh Steelers? On January 23, Touchdown Alabama Magazine shared the latest Jalen Milroe update by Andrew Fillipponi on Instagram. Per the Pittsburgh insider’s X report, “There are Steeler scouts who ‘love’ Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. Believe he’s a 1st round talent. And potential franchise quarterback. Mike Tomlin will see him next week at the Senior Bowl. Stay tuned.”

After finishing the season with a 10-7 record, Mike Tomlin will look to improve their QB situation. The Steelers played two QBs this past season beginning with Justin Fields who went 4-2 before Russell Wilson took up the starting nod in Week 7 and showed early promise by winning six of his seven starts. However, he couldn’t lead his team to victory in the last five games. With both entering free agency in March, the Steelers have now fixed their interest in Jalen Milroe.
Mike Tomlin is playing a huge part in the upcoming Senior Bowl, where elite CFB prospects will work with pro-level coaches, scouts, and GMs for a week. This makes it a perfect chance for the Steelers to critically assess their desired target starting on January 27.
As of today, Pittsburgh holds the No. 21 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, and Jalen Milroe’s draft stocks continue to grow. He’s the fourth-best QB, 70th overall prospect by Pro Football Focus, while CBS Sports ranks him as the third-best QB and a potential top 45 pick. But here comes that polarizing aspect that Jalen Milroe was hit with.

What Pittsburgh fans think about Jalen Milroe
The Steelers fans aren’t happy with the way things are shaping up for Jalen Milroe in Pittsburgh. A fan voiced a general response to Fillipponi’s report — “H—- no.” Why? Many view the 22-year-old Alabama QB as a high-ceiling, low-floor prospect. He didn’t exactly have a bad season but obvious issues especially turnovers became a huge turnoff. And then, there’s this lack of improvement from the previous 2023 season which is another cause for concern.
In his first start in Alabama in 2023, Jalen Milroe threw for 2,834 yards and 23 touchdowns to just six interceptions. He also added 531 rushing yards and 12 scores to the mix. However, this past season, turnovers have become an apparent issue where he recorded 2,844 passing yards and 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions! He may have somehow made up for it by improving his running ability where he rushed for 726 yards and 20 scores.

One factor that must have impacted Jalen Milroe‘s performance in 2024 is the change in the coaching staff. But is it worth the risk? The Senior Bowl will probably give Mike Tomlin the content he needs to make a decision.
