Hey, we got another vote for Travis Hunter. Let’s talk stats. If you think Travis Hunter is just “another player,” then you gotta rewatch all of his games. Somehow, this guy snagged 3 receiving touchdowns along with an interception in 2 different games: NDSU and Oklahoma State. Do you have any idea what this means? This was never done before in the last 25 years of FBS history. If this doesn’t convince you why he is one of the best players to touch that football, then playing over 150 snaps on offense and defense while being massively useful for the Buffs should. Over 1,000 yards with 92 receptions. Travis Hunter is inhumane, and it ain’t no wonder he is a Heisman finalist.
But then again, is he the Heisman winner? See, this debate has been going on for a long time. Who is destined to break the QB dominance? Travis Hunter or Ashton Jeanty. People have started taking sides already, and this time around, we have a critical opinion from a big-time HC. See, RGIII’s wife, Grete Griffin, had one question: “If you had a vote this year, coach, who are you voting for? Ashton Jeanty or Travis Hunter?” Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman couldn’t help but pick the best out of the two. “I’ve seen highlights. Both are amazing players, but to see what Travis Hunter is doing on both sides of the ball. It’s unprecedented,” Freeman mentioned. We don’t wanna make it seem like Jeanty hasn’t done anything less impressive. This RB has double the stats of all the other running backs who have managed to grab Heisman before.

That speaks volumes. But then again, the conversation always boils down to the fact that Hunter is capable of single-handedly changing the face of the game as an offensive and defensive weapon. Do you know that through the entire 9-3 run the Buffs had this year, Hunter was only targeted 39 times?
The amount of skill you need to have that much coverage is wild. This is the 3rd lowest in the entire Power 4. We talked about his yards and receptions on offense before but on the defense, Hunter has around 688 snaps. Pair that up with 4 massive interceptions and 11 pass breakups, you get the perfect recipe for a Heisman winner.
Yeah, people have tried to snub Hunter from their list, but at this point, it doesn’t even matter anymore. Hunter and Jeanty are both going to New York, and we cannot wait to see how this entire thing unfolds. However, adding a twist to the tale is the fact that the road to lifting that trophy will not be easy for the RB and the WR/CB.

Dillon Gabriel and Cam Ward are still in the talk
“Breaking the quarterback dominance.” That is a line that has been flung around a lot this season. QBs have always had the most easy routes to the Heisman awards. At the end of the day, if they don’t make the proper pass, how on earth are the RBs and WRs supposed to cover yards and score touchdowns?
This is where Ducks QB Dillon Gabriel and Hurricanes QB Cam Ward come in. Let’s talk about Gabriel first. The Ducks are undefeated this season, and behind it all is their quarterback. While you can say that Dan Lanning had some offensive problems mid-season, Gabriel still has managed to hold. Averaging 270+ yards in almost every single game and having the second-highest completion rate in the entire country (73.2%) amounts to something, right?

Next on the list is Ward. While Cam Ward couldn’t manage to ward away the playoff snub, he still has managed to end Miami’s 25 years of drought. This QB has somehow managed to snag 36 passing touchdowns, which is the highest in the entire nation. Add to it the 4,100+ yards of coverage, and you have yourself an elite quarterback who can change the game for his team. Yeah, Hunter and Jeanty have a chance at grabbing that shiny trophy, but Ward and Gabriel aren’t gonna make it easy.
