After the Texas A&M debacle, should the Gators cut ties with Billy Napier immediately?

The fans have given their verdict. The 2024 season for the 3 times nation champs has been rough. No matter how much Billy Napier tried, with the injuries and the rough schedule, the team was slowly sinking into irrelevancy. Starting the season with 2 back-to-back losses, everyone had thought that Napier and his team were done for. The Samford game did manage to light a spark, however, that too has been extinguished.

With 33-7 in the 3rd quarter against the Aggies, Napier and the Gators are feeling the fans’ hatred. Brandon Walker took to X on September 15th and noted, “Gotta fire Billy Napier on the field when the game ends. This isn’t Florida football.” You cannot help but feel bad for Billy Napier. One fan was quick to agree with what Brandon Walker had noted. “Exactly. Before the game ends. Go grab his coaching whistle and tell him it’s over,” the fan wrote. The downfall probably began when we first got the news that Gators WR Kahleil Jackson won’t be playing for the entire season. Jackson had an ACL injury and while the surgery was a success, losing out on his skills in the WR role is costing Napier a heck lot. Following this, we also saw how Eugene Wilson was also out of the Aggies game because of an injury. This was another reality check.

The only player capable enough to carry the team right now would be QB DJ Lagway. However, like always, Napier knows how to ruin things and he decided picking Graham Mertz as the starting QB would be a better shot at getting to the playoffs. Mertz started in the first 2 games of the season and both were LOST. Lagway started in the Samford game and the Gators won that with a massive 45-7 score. We will let you figure out who’s better. However, before that, let’s jump in and see what else the fans are saying.

Billy Napier could potentially lose his job

“This is pure hell,” a fan noted on X. The 1st and the 2nd quarter of the Aggies game was a disaster. Texas managed to lock in back-to-back touchdowns and field goals. Things have only started to turn around after the 3rd quarter and Florida is still far, far away from winning this. Another fan noted, “This is humiliation”. Being a 3 time National Champions and losing to the Aggies is a bad look. However, we also gotta keep in mind that the 2024 schedule for the Gators is a rollercoaster ride. The team would be facing some of the best in CFB (Longhorns, Bulldogs, etc) so this won’t be the only humiliation game the Gators are going to face.

“Should have fired him at halftime,” one more fan added. As we pointed out before, the first half of the game was rough for the Gators but they have managed to pull the score to 33-20, so props for that. Finally, a fan said, “When they lost to Arkansas last year I knew he was done.” The Razorbacks game was a close one. With 36-39, the Gators missed the winning mark by just 4 points. However, it looks like that was the beginning of the end for the team under Billy Napier.
