Are the Gators setting themselves up for failure by sticking with Billy Napier?

The upset Gators’ fans are bound to get angrier in light of the recent revelations. After a terrible ongoing record of 12-16, stretching out throughout 2 seasons, Billy Napier is practically being driven out by the fans to ensure the Gainesville program is no longer in shambles. Yet, getting rid of Napier is proving to be more difficult than expected. Firing him mid-season would result in a massive buyout of $26 million for the Gators. It doesn’t seem rational, seeing as the program is already without a president. Unfortunately, Billy Napier might just be sticking around for longer than precedented, as a recent press conference revealed that his contract won’t be terminated as of now.

On 16th September, Billy Napier took to a much-awaited press conference that would give everyone dire clarity on his future and whether he’d be released or not. Much to the Gators’ dismay, Napier said no to “any discussions about his future or his job status,” indicating that he will at least be the head coach for the coming few games. This news is not being received well by the fans, who are enraged with the choices of the university staff as well as Napier for constantly running the team through a wall with his failures.

This fan commented on how both Napier along the athletic director for the University of Florida, Scott Stricklin, should be dropped from the program. It read, “FIRE STRICKLIN. IMMEDIATELY. THEN FIRE NAPIER.” There have never been deeper waters for the Gators, pun intended, and having Napier at the reins of the team will draw more boos and backlash since the HC has had 2 losses already in Week 3 of the season. All in all, the hate towards the Gators’ decision didn’t end there since more and more fans came out to express their anguish with the university.

The fans react brutally to the news of Napier sticking around

If we were to look at Napier’s record in the past 2 seasons, the team stood still at 6-7 and 5-7, paving the way towards the united decision of the fans to see him go. With many speculating this year as his last season, it almost feels like a slap in their face on hearing the news about Napier’s retainment and they’re responding in kind.
