Four-star elite corner J’Vari Flowers of Miami (Fla.) Northwestern was supposed to take his time. The plan was simple—spread out his official visits, let the process play out, and commit when the moment felt right. But recruiting never sticks to a script, especially for a top-flight CB from Miami. Now, with the dead period about to lift and his phone buzzing with interest from powerhouse programs, Flowers has decided to move quickly. Instead of stretching his visits into the summer, he’s accelerating the process, setting himself up for a decision that could shake up the 2025 recruiting landscape.
The 5’11”, 165-pound cornerback, who recently reclassified from the 2026 to 2025 class, has officially narrowed his choices to six schools: Florida Gators, Miami Hurricanes, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, North Carolina, and Syracuse. Each has its own pitch, its own angle to convince the elite defensive back to call their campus home. But today Chad Simmons on On3 Recruits revealed that the Sunshine States are battling Kirby Smart’s UGA to keep him in Florida!
Mario Cristobal has the hometown advantage. FSU hosted him more than any other school and has made it clear that he’s a priority. Billy Napier’s Gators, meanwhile, have surged since his reclassification, making a hard push despite its scholarship limitations. Georgia, the reigning powerhouse, has already left a strong impression following a visit to Athens last month. Syracuse, thanks to Fran Brown’s recruiting ties in Florida, is an intriguing dark horse. And then there’s North Carolina, where GOAT coach Bill Belichick himself resides.

Simmons described what’s coming next as “a wild month of March” for J’Vari Flowers, and he’s not wrong. The cornerback’s travel schedule is locked in and coming fast—North Carolina on March 3, Auburn on March 6, Florida on March 10, Georgia on March 17, Syracuse on March 21, and Miami wrapping things up on March 24. Those visits will be pivotal, and according to Simmons, Miami and Florida have the most to lose. “Miami, the school that’s in his backyard, the school he’s visited the most… that program has made him a priority,” Simmons said. “He’s a personal guy that Mario Cristobal is very involved in.” He also noted Florida’s aggressive pursuit but hinted at potential complications, questioning how Will Harris’ move from Florida’s staff to Miami’s could affect things.
The No. 16 in his position per On3 and No. 5 per Rivals. Out-of-state programs aren’t backing down either. Georgia already got its shot at impressing Flowers in February, and he “loved his time in Athens.” The Cuse? Despite being the furthest from home, Brown has a direct link as he just signed 3 players from Miami Northwestern in the 2025 class. That connection could be huge. And while Tar Heels might seem like the long shot, their pitch is built around NFL pedigree, which still carries weight in a recruit’s decision-making process. As Simmons put it, “You have to start with the school in his backyard with Miami and then in-state as well with Florida, and then go from there to see if anyone can knock them off in this race.”
Miami, Florida, and SEC powers are battling for Flowers, making his commitment one of the cycle’s most closely watched decisions. The Gators’ scholarship situation adds another layer of intrigue—Florida is at the 85-man limit, meaning it will have to navigate its roster situation carefully to make room. That could give Miami an edge, or it could open the door for a late push from Georgia or Auburn.

Flowers isn’t just a lockdown defensive back; he’s also a blazing-fast sprinter. As a sophomore, he was the Florida 3A champion in the 100-meter dash, proving he’s got elite speed to burn. Not only that, but he also took second in the 200 and anchored a gold medal-winning 4×400 relay team. Oh, and let’s not forget his work on the gridiron—37 tackles, 18 pass breakups, and an interception as a 10th grader.
As his recruitment nears its final stretch, it looks like Miami is in the driver’s seat. According to On3, the Hurricanes have a commanding 80.7% chance to land the two-sport star. But don’t count Florida out just yet. The Gators sit right behind them with an 8.3% chance. Well, they still have time to make their case before he makes his decision.
