Home/College Football

See, Nick Saban has had quite an impact on the world of CFB. And it’s not only because he managed to make Bama one of the greatest teams out there. There is a high chance that some of your best coaches this season had previously worked under Nick Saban. And one such coach was Dan Lanning. The Ducks HC was the graduate assistant under arguably one of the greatest staff Saban had ever created for the Crimson Tide. He-k it made Crimson Tide the 2015 national champs.

It looks like Lanning has learned a lot from his time with Saban cause this season; the Ducks are winning over everyone. With a massive 8-0, it feels like nothing can stop the monster Lanning has created. So, if you were a Ducks player and if you were asked, “Who would be more fun to have as a coach for a day, Dan Lanning or Nick Saban?”, your pick would be Lanning, right? Well, not for the rising star of Ducks football, Marcus Harper II. Back in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, Harper had only one answer to that question; “I would say Nick Saban….. Cause he coached coach, Lanning… So I would like to what that is like.”

Running it back to the roots, huh? Getting coached by Saban has to be an unreal experience. It’s kind of wild how that man manages to maintain complete discipline over his camp and allows players to reach their peak potential. For Harper, this would be an amazing opportunity. The Ducks OL is already leading the offense. See, start of the season, the offense wasn’t really in a good spot.

They won with 24 points against a team like Idaho. Now, why is this an issue? Idaho was recently demoted. So, naturally, this did point some fingers toward the O-line but fear not. With every passing game, the offense showed massive improvements. Right now, after the win over Illini, Lanning, and Co. have managed to hit the No.16th spot in terms of points per game.

Now imagine this with Saban’s touch. It will be a game-changer for Harper and the Ducks. However, someone has to go back in time and do a lot of tinkering for that to happen. What we do know right now is that Harper and the offensive line are going to put up one he-k of a fight against the Wolverines.

Marcus Harper II; ‘Lot More To Prove’

For the 2024 season, Harper had only appeared for the first 3 games for the Ducks. Now, he is coming back on the turf when Lanning and Co. hit the road for the Wolverines. Back in 2023, Harper was one of the elite players for Oregon’s offensive line. Allowing ZERO sacks the entire 14 games he started in, he quickly became the crowd’s favorite.

Now the question is, can this guy pull off some magic against the Wolverines’ defense? See, Sherrone Moore and Co. are not in a good spot. The team that Jim Harbaugh has left with Moore is just a hollow shell of its former 2023 national championship-winning self. Still, Moore does have Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant at his disposal and these guys could curb stomp the entire Ducks rushing offense.

This is THE chance Harper has to prove himself. Oregon would be hitting the roundtable going into this Week 10 showdown and if Harper and Co. do what they did last season, then they can easily manage to bring down the once-great Wolverines. This would give the Ducks an easy ticket into the playoffs. We cannot wait to see what happens tomorrow.
