We gotta talk about Coach Prime. Deion Sanders has single-handedly managed to change the face of Colorado football. This was the same team that was 1-11 back in 2022, and that’s not even the worst part. Buffs were losing almost every single game by giving their opponents 30+ points in every game. This same team is now running with a 6-2 record, and this is arguably one of the best starts the Buffs have ever had since 2018. The best part is, they have only allowed 2 teams to hit the 30+ point mark. This is the comeback era, and Deion Sanders is making it count.
And during an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, Ducks offense star Marcus Harper II agrees. “Deion Sanders, inspirational icon or biggest personality right now?” was the question our host put on the table, and Harper had the perfect answer: “I would say a mixture of both.” Yes, perfect. No one in their wildest dreams had thought that the Buffs would manage to get something like this done. After the season started with a massive 31-26 win over ND State, Coach Prime and Co. did hit their first roadblock.
Honestly, it was quite early on. Matt Rhule and the Huskers destroyed Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes, laying waste to the offensive line the coach had painstakingly built through the transfer portal. But no one thought this would become a blessing. Later, going into the Rocky Mountain Showdown, the Buffs quickly showed what they were truly made of. Ran a 28-9 game against one of their biggest rivals, and Travis Hunter managed to break a 26-year-old record with 13 catches, 2 touchdowns, and 100 yards, along with a beautiful interception and returned it for 38 yards.

Then was Baylor. Here, once again, the offense was all over the place. But what shined here was Shedeur Sanders. With barely 3 seconds on the clock in the 4th quarter, Shedeur landed a 45-yard Hail Mary to LaJohntay Wester and pushed the Buffs into overtime. This is what you want from your quarterback. Bringing in Pat Shurmur genuinely paid off for Deion. Shedeur now perfectly knows when to make plays and survive inside a collapsing pocket.
Finally, there was UCF. Robert Livingstone and his defensive coordination came in clutch here. Giving the team this NFL knowledge paid off, cause right now, the Buffs stand next to arguably one of the best defenses in the country (Huskers). Stopping a run-heavy team like the Knights that easily is beautiful. Deion Sanders has made this team something unrecognizable and fans are loving it. The question now is, can they crack the playoffs?

Can Coach Prime make the CFP dream come true?
See, as we pointed out before, the Huskers’ loss was a blessing in disguise. It helped the Buffs and Deion Sanders bounce back and they now sitting on the No.3 spot on the Big 12 Top 8 list. But that’s not even the best part. When the AP Week 9 polls dropped, no one would’ve guessed that the Buffs would manage to crack it.

Grabbing a win against Utah and Kansas shouldn’t be hard. If the Buffs keep up the same performance they pulled against the Bearcats, then it should be an easy game. However, Texas and Oklahoma will not be easy. While Coach Prime is going to the Bowl this year, grabbing the CFP spot would mark a historic move for the Buffs. We and the fans cannot wait to see what unfolds.
