The Colorado Buffs have had a good start to the season, boasting a 3-1 record. A significant contributor to their success is Travis Hunter, whose exceptional dual-threat skills have been nothing short of remarkable. Even NBA legend LeBron James couldn’t help but praise Hunter’s talent, calling him “RIDICULOUS.” Now, as the Buffs prepare to face the UCF Knights, a former NFL player has surprisingly expressed doubts about Hunter’s gameplay. However, underestimating a player of Hunter’s caliber seems utterly delusional.
Today, on the Sons of UCF YouTube channel Arizona Cardinals, former NFL player Matt Leinart talked about Colorado Buffs dual threat Travis Hunter ahead of their upcoming faceoff against the UCF Knights. Matt thinks that no matter how good Hunter plays, UCF can handle him. Shocking, right? Wait until you know his exact words.
He said that for Colorado Buffs, in this game against UCF, they need to get off the field, or it’s going to be a long day. He then stressed the need for depth, and added, “That’s something Colorado doesn’t have.” After that, he specifically called out Travis Hunter while continuing his point. “We had Travis Hunter at TCU last year in Texas. He ended up playing his typical game, but that just can wear you down, you know what I mean? So that definitely does give an advantage to UCF, as they understand how to probably handle it a little better. At the end of the day, it’s football and you just go out and play, but that definitely gives the Knights an advantage,” said Matt about UCF likely getting an edge over Travis Hunter’s gameplay.

Well, Travis Hunter is being considered the biggest threat for every team after his remarkable performance in the ongoing season. During Colorado’s faceoff against their in-state rivals, the Colorado State Rams, Hunter had 5 tackles and returned an interception 38 yards in a 28-9 win. He also recorded 145 snaps, of which 82 snaps were on offense and 63 on defense against the Baylor Bears. If that does not concern the Knights, then what will? But this is not the only instance where someone undervalued him.

Well, Matt Leinart is not the only one who questioned Travis Hunter’s abilities. Even NFL star Richard Sherman took a jab at Hunter, claiming that “he won’t be able to do both jobs in the NFL.” This affected Hunter to some extent, as everyone knows about his goal to be a two-way player in the NFL. Also, the fact that such comments came from his childhood role model was quite surprising for him. The two-way star couldn’t stop himself from replying to Richard’s harsh words, saying, “Stop speaking on me and let me play football.” Well, how can he remain unaffected by the hurtful comments from the player he admired and looked up to?

However, Deion Sanders didn’t let this situation last longer. He took over the whole incident and sorted things between them via phone call. After which both came to a cordial term. Even Richard shared a tweet regarding his conversation with Hunter, saying, “Just had a great conversation with @TravisHunterJr. I appreciate you, @DeionSanders, for setting that up. Huge fan of that young man and grateful to be able to clear that up.”
This relieved Travis, as his remarks really affected him. After that, even he mentioned on the Well Off Media that he holds no grudges against him, saying, “He didn’t mean for it to go out that way, that type of no-negative energy.” You might think they patched things up, but it’s bigger than that. Richard’s not only making amends with Travis but also joining forces with him on his podcast very soon. Let’s hope it drops soon!
