Home/College Football

The college football season is getting crankier, with the teams rapidly going back and forth with their poll spots under their changing weekly output. As the first playoff ranking knocks on the door, every bit of the development has been on the minute watch. While the Oregon Ducks unquestionably dominate the chart with an undefeated status after week 10, it needs a close acumen to see who’s the potential second-best. But, as ESPN mogul Adam Rittenberg can see, some good news ahead for Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs.

In ESPN’s microscopic projection, ‘It’s still Georgia’ over Ohio State next to Oregon in the playoff stretch. It just lies in the overall performance streak. As Rittenberg noted, ”Georgia has shown in the second half against Alabama just how dangerous it is and has followed up with the win at Texas, which was the dominant, terrific defensive scheme, I thought for the game.”

Dann Lannings and the Ducks had a soothing victory over Michigan to hold their top spot for the third week consecutively. So, they are going to the thick of the playoff, and it’s not even up for debate. But coming down a bit, when we look at the Bulldogs and Buckeyes thrust, it calls for a serious analysis. Ohio State’s tight shield shined against the Nittany Lions in the last quarter, restricting them to a defeat by 7 trail.

On the flip, Georgia also gave Florida a hard time in Jacksonville, picking up a smashing 34-7 win, but they did that after taking a hard pill in the early half, showcasing enough loopholes to work on. Although the voters have enough reasons to give a second thought to keeping the Bulldogs at No. 2, Kirby Smart seems content with how the team pans out. In the last match, Carson Beck’s offensive woes cast a nasty impact on the team’s overall image. The way Beck threw three interceptions at a crucial juncture led the netizens to rally against him. However, the coach still thinks Beck has more to give to the team going forward as he’s a decision-maker. While he certainly failed to deliver what was expected, his 68 out of 73 cuts down on the catastrophe at least.

Now, you know why Ryan Day and Ohio State can’t be ruled out from the potential No. 2 spot in the playoffs. Even the ESPN analyst contradicted his previous take to settle with it to some extent.

Ohio State still has a salient point in their favor for the No. 2 playoff spot

What’s your perspective on:

Is Georgia's shaky start against Florida enough to question their No. 2 playoff ranking?

Have an interesting take?

Ohio State’s biggest challenge has been their passing game. Ryan Day-led squad could only amass 296.33 passing yards per game, and while the beating heart of the program, Will Howard contributed 134 – 181 on completions and 17 touchdowns in the air so far. The stat is clearly not enough to make an argument in favor of their NO 2 spot. If they had simply slipped from a much-needed win against Penn State, Ryan Day would have been under serious fire. But thankfully, they had their luck and strength by their side in Happy Valley to beat the favorite.

While it definitely didn’t fade out that they showcased deep offensive woes throughout the season, they escaped the losses. The quarterback play has been decent, even if it’s not something. They worked on their defensive lacks and showcased better control in the defining week 10. But the strongest ace in the hole is they only let it go against a road game with the No.1 Oregon. Not a prestige defeat at all!

”But meanwhile, they are sitting here with 1 point road loss to the number one team in the country, so you could certainly make a case that Ohio State over Georgia as well,” said Rittenberg.
