Is Dan Lanning's potential NFL move a blessing or a curse for Oregon Ducks fans?

The Oregon Ducks fans are on cloud nine at the moment. Thanks to their HC Dan Lanning for gifting them the feeling that would probably stick with them for a lifetime: 10-0, undefeated. But maybe it’s time for them to get some reality check. And trust me, things are going to be more painful after the happy stretch with Lanning. As per the hush-hush, the Ducks HC has already been on the target list of the $11 billion NFL giant. Should they be happy about their fav mentor making it to the NFL or would they be sad losing out on the gem? Well, we don’t know that yet. What we know is that, even if the 11 billion-dollar giant fails to land Lanning, there are three more programs on the waiting list.

Lanning has always been known for being brash and ambitious, mostly because of his aggressive coaching moves. This season, his luck too favored him. Coming off 10-0 is NO JOKE, mind you! Other than shooting Oregon to the pinnacle, the Ducks HC pulled out a daring move against Michigan Wolverines. He called a timeout late in the game so his team could sit back and watch Michigan fans leave the stadium after the blowout. Yes, that’s how Lanning is.

But maybe it’s time for the Oregon fans to prepare for the incoming storm. On The Ruffino & Joe Show, analyst Blake Ruffino dropped the name of Lanning’s next destination and it’s none other than Dallas Cowboys worth $11 billion. The analyst tried to hype up the Oregon fans as much as possible: “If you’re an Oregon fan, you should be flattered you should 100% be flattered that the NFL the crème de la crème is coming after your head coach.”

As he stated, “The only team that would be worried about at the current moment though would be Dallas.” Looks like the present Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy has already placed his one foot out of the door. Now Dallas Cowboys President Jerry Jones won’t be going with any random person to carry his program ahead. He will be in need of a natural-born winner and a possible future National Champion. And right at the moment, who better fit than the Oregon HC Lanning? After all, he carries with himself a rich resume.

Why Dan Lanning is the solution for struggling NFL programs?

Back in 2015, Lanning served as a linebackers coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was also the defensive coordinator under Kirby Smart during their title run in 2022. He started to soar even higher with his Oregon boys and with the Ducks having a record of 32-5 and currently, that makes him the proud mentor of the No.1 team in the country. So all these factors combined make Lanning an attention magnet for NFL programs, all of which have been eyeing him for quite some time now. Even in case, Dallas misses the target, there are three others on the line.

The chances of the New York Jets is standing at the top since they have parted ways with their HC, Robert Saleh. So at the moment, the program is headed by their interim HC, Jeff Ulbrich. Lanning might get intrigued by taking over the program and take up the challenge of confirming their seat in the playoffs next season. Next up is the Jacksonville Jaguars, as they have landed the last position in the AFC South with a 2-8 record under coach Doug Pederson

Have an interesting take?

Thus, Dan Lanning could be a solid option since has turned things for the better at Oregon. The last option is the Las Vegas Raiders as HC Antonio Pierce is still in a dilemma about continuing in the next season. In case he quits, the Ducks HC would be a perfect fit to take over and gift the Raiders the stability that they had been lacking for years now. So, the Ducks fans better take precautions for an incoming heartbreak!
