Okay, so, Cormani McClain. If you haven’t been living under a rock, then you’d know that Cormani McClain probably didn’t have the best start to the season. First, the entire rumors of him being removed from the roster surfaced on X and then it was reported that McClain was benched by Billy Napier because he was “too small”. It’s kind of wild because we did spot McClain warming up before the Gators got thrashed by the Hurricanes. however, the dude was never spotted on that turf. But wait a minute, Napier finally allowed the guy to have his debut against the Kentucky Wildcats and what did Cormani do? Grab 1 assisted tackle, which allowed him to run up the football by around 20 yards and give the Gators the push they needed to wrap up the game.
It looks like Napier has finally learned his lesson cause right now, as the Gators face off against the Texan monster (Longhorns), Cormani McClain is getting his first start. Rivals took to X to share a post with the caption, “THE FORMER 5⭐️ IS FINALLY GETTING HIS OPPORTUNITY.” This is a breakthrough moment for the guy, and what makes this event spicier is the fact that Deion Sanders Jr. shared the post with a straightforward 2-word message; “Turn up”. Gators fans could finally rest easy knowing that Napier was finally making use of all the weapons he had previously had access to.

See, Cormani was down on that turf against the Bulldogs as well. The dude managed to grab 3 solo tackles and 1 assisted tackle against a team that is considered one of the best in terms of their rushing offense and pass game. What did it cost? 3 losses of the season to finally get his head in the game? Well, at least Napier is finally focusing.
However, is he too late? The 2024 season has not been kind to Billy Napier and his boys, and most of the blame should fall on the HC. From predictable play calling to using Graham Mertz as the starting QB when you have access to a freshman talent like DJ Lagway is wild.

Things especially fell apart during the Dawgs showdown. The Gators had quite the lead. They managed to make Kirby Smart and Co. trail behind them by 7 points. But boy, oh boy, did it turn sour fast. With Lagway out because of his left hamstring injury, the game quickly fell apart for Napier and Co. And now, with the Longhorns grabbing 3 touchdowns against the Gators, it doesn’t look like the team can make a comeback.
The future of Florida Gators
What’s your perspective on:
Is Billy Napier's decision-making costing the Gators their season, or is there still hope for redemption?
Have an interesting take?
Let’s be honest here. The playoffs are off the list, and now the Bowl game is gone, too. It will be a miracle if the Gators even manage to break even this season. When Lagway was here, Napier still had a shot at redemption. Lagway had the vision to turn around the Florida offensive game and end the season in style.

Now? That is all out of the window. With a 3rd starting QB from Yale taking the lead, there is no shot Napier is winning against Steve Sarkisian or even winning any of the remaining games on the season. While we did get the news that the University of Florida has decided to stick with Napier for the 2025 season, we can only hope that the HC finally learns from the mistakes he made this year and makes a comeback with a fresh roster.
