Is Jeremiah Smith the next NFL superstar in the making, or just another overhyped college player?

Chip Kelly has a tremendous amount of offensive coaching he is offering to Ohio State. During the offseason, Kelly made a masterstroke by landing former Kansas State Wildcats quarterback Will Howard and former Ole Miss Rebels running back Quinson Judkins through the transfer portal. Now he has a favorite from Ohio State’s offensive squad and he can’t stop going gaga over him. CBS Sports shared a clip of Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly praising 18-year-old receiver Jeremiah Smith on October 3oth. The clip is going viral among Ohio fans for obvious reasons.

He is a serious football player. His goal every single day is just to improve, and it’s just for him to get better. And one facet of the game and I think it’s almost like you’re dealing with a 10-year NFL veteran in terms of how he approaches meetings and how he approaches practice. And it’s really where you know that’s the first thing I said. Obviously, when you meet Jeremiah, his fiscal skills are dying comparable for someone at that age. But I think it’s the maturity level that there really has set him apart.”

Kelly, who has spent three years in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, clearly knows how they play in the NFL. In his NFL coaching career, Kelly has trained receivers such as DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, and Jordan Matthews for great seasons. If Smith’s capabilities resemble those of a guy who plays in the NFL, there is a high chance for him to get drafted as a top prospect in the coming days.

With Jeremiah Smith leading its offense, Ohio State is second among the teams with a 40.3 points per game record and fifth in passing yards with 283.9 average yards per game. They are fourth in rushing yards, with 188 points per game. Smith alone leads Ohio State with 623 receiving yards entering the 10th week. Although it’s evident how much Ohio staff admires Jeremiah Smith, they recently faced heat from an analyst after the Nebraska game.

While the Ohio State boys, along with head coach Ryan Day and offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, were enjoying their 21-17 close win over Nebraska, Joel Klatt found some flaws in their game. As it was visible, the Nebraska game was a result of Will Howard’s 3 touchdowns and completing 81.25% of passes.

However, college football analyst Joel Klatt made a major point and directly called out the team for ignoring their star receiver Jeremiah Smith most of the time.

The best player on the field had four total targets and only two in the second half, both on the first possession of the second half and then not one target the rest of the game. That’s Jeremiah Smith. that’s crazy. And you know what? They’re going to watch this film, and they’re going to say to themselves. That can’t happen again.”

Although Klatt did not directly say it was an intentional move by the team, he was just dissatisfied, given Jeremiah Smith’s limited play in the game against Nebraska. As per Klatt, if Smith could have received more chances, Ohio State could have earned an easy win. Besides that, let us know in the comments about Smith’s future in college football. Can he be the next Travis Hunter of CFB?
