Bryce Underwood, the five-star quarterback who flipped from LSU to Michigan, is shaping up to be the name to watch. And if you’re thinking ‘JJ McCarthy to Jim Harbaugh,’ then Underwood might just be ‘Bryce Underwood to Sherrone Moore.’ Michigan’s QB situation has been a rollercoaster this year, but things are looking up in a big way.
The Wolverines have had their share of QB drama—rotating between three quarterbacks before eventually giving the starting nod back to former walk-on Davis Warren. With Jayden Davis already on the roster, you’d think the Wolverines’ QB room was crowded enough. But then Underwood comes into the mix, and suddenly, the stakes feel sky-high. Well, thanks to Moore and his recruiting squad, Michigan’s 2025 class is climbing the ranks, currently sitting at 13th nationally. Flipping Underwood is a huge win and signals the program’s intent to dominate not just on Saturdays but on signing days, too. And now, another name is emerging in Moore’s QB room as a nod to this.
The Wolverines have now added former Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene to the roster. This move has fans buzzing, but could Keene provide a fitting challenge for Underwood? Keene wasted no time in sharing his excitement about joining the Wolverines, posting on X, “Excited to get to work! Go Blue 〽️.”

With over 8,000 career passing yards and 65 touchdowns under his belt, Keene has the stats to back up his enthusiasm. In just 39 games, the quarterback has completed 68% of his passes. During his time at Fresno State, he has thrown for 5,868 yards and 42 touchdowns.

Interestingly, Keene actually faced off against Michigan earlier this season while playing for Fresno State. In that particular game, he completed 22 of 36 passes for 235 yards, tossing one touchdown and two interceptions. Hence, he’s not just coming in cold; he’s already got a taste of what it’s like to go against the Big Ten competition.
See, Bryce Underwood is a big deal. He joined Michigan with an impressive 2024 season under his belt. From being in the headlines for the longest time to his impressive stats, he has seen growth in his football career. The quarterback threw for 2,095 yards with 29 touchdowns in 2024, and last year he racked up an incredible 3,165 yards and 40 touchdowns.
While everyone is hyped about Underwood, having Keene around is a smart move for Michigan. He brings lots of experience to the table, and during his time at Fresno State, he has proved that he is also good at handling pressure. Most importantly, he shares a good bond with Michigan’s new offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey.
Why is Mikey Keene the best choice?

The 2024 season has been anything but hassle-free for the Michigan Wolverines. With fans scratching their heads and questioning the defending champions, who would’ve thought Moore could turn things around like this? One major highlight has been landing five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, and now it is Mikey Keene.
All of us know that Michigan’s biggest issue last season was finding a stable quarterback. We can assume that fans were hoping for USC’s Miller Moss or Cal’s Fernando Mendoza to join Michigan’s squad, but Moore and Co. ended up with Mikey Keene.
Keene is going to Michigan on a high note. In his former school, he threw for nearly 3,000 yards in each of the last two seasons. The new quarterback is also a reliable option for Michigan because he has decision-making ability, which makes him a standout. It’ll be interesting to see how Moore handles Bryce and Keene. Keene’s a solid backup, a bit like how they eased JJ McCarthy in. They might give the $10.5 million Underwood some snaps but don’t count out Keene for playing time.
