Not many days have gone since we have seen fans throwing random shades at arguably the most controversial QB of the season, Carson Beck. The Georgia Bulldogs star has picked up every possible negative adjective for his horrible performance unless and until a sudden drastic leap at the Tennessee game. The guy legit went from rag to riches in terms of the fans’ good grace, scoring a career-high 25 of 40 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns, steering the team toward a 31-17 bounceback against Tennessee. Consequently, his status, unsurprisingly, took a surge not only in the season’s chart but also in the NFL stock. And now, the polarising young star is the LA Rams’ potential pick, as per ESPN‘s mock draft.
Beck has always been viewed as a top draft pick unless and until his mid-season slump got the better of the stocks. But it’s safe to say that the Georgia QB has learned his lesson pretty well. He made up for his game-casting interceptions late in this season. Be it a stellar arm flex or the stormy runs, Beck is back in his power. The Rams noticed the effort and might have decided their next Matthew Stafford on the line.
ESPN’s recent mock breakdown suggested, “They could get the Rams to find their quarterback of the future, Carson, back out of Georgia, who, entering 2024, was projected to be the number one quarterback in this year’s class. His season has not gone that great. He did just play his best game of the season this past week against Tennessee. But he becomes the option to replace Matthew Stafford there in LA at 18.”

Stafford has still been in a position to score TDs for the Rams at his 36. But it is undeniable that he is reaching his end, and the Rams have to look for an alternative to fill the room. Sitting at 5-5, the Rams can’t aim for the top-ranked QBs in the nation for obvious reasons. With Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward all being pulled away by the more successful teams, Carson Beck looks like a feasible, lucrative call for HC Sean McVay.
On the other hand, it will be really tough for Smart to let Beck go, as he has always been the loudest advocate of the Jacksonville native.

Kirby Smart straightaway dismissed the questions when frenzied fans and media personnel asked him about changing the starting QB amidst Beck’s horrible performance. The coach said he fully believed in Beck’s decision-making and is not considering a position change. Later, his stance made sense when Carson Beck became an overnight hero against the Vols.
Now, it’s time for Beck to pay back. The Georgia QB has had some toughest time of his career in a rollercoaster season. While the entire Bulldogs offense was at fault, he was vehemently made the scapegoat of the system. He endured a lot of personal attacks as well, with people randomly calling out his girlfriend for his misery on the field. However, the only factor that kept him going was coach Kirby Smart’s unwavering trust in him.

Is Carson Beck the Rams' next big hope, or just another flash in the pan?

In a recent interview with Fox 5 Atlanta, Beck noted how Smart stood up for him after one of his poorest games and fell short of words to thank. ”For him to do that and stand up in front of the team and have my back in that moment and obviously he’s had my back in front of the media, that’s huge for me. That’s Kirby Smart… It means a lot to me. It makes me want to play hard for him.” said Beck.
