The Cornhuskers handled the Buckeyes as best as they could on Saturday afternoon. After an interception put Nebraska on Ohio State’s seven-yard line in the 3rd quarter, Matt Rhule’s team had an opportunity to grab the lead. Unfortunately, quarterback Dylan Raiola lamented after the game that Nebraska was unable to capitalize. The Cornhuskers ended up losing to the Buckeyes, 21-17. Besides losing, Raiola was mostly bothered by how rude OSU fans were.
Raiola called out OSU supporters in the press conference for chucking bottles and stuff onto the field. “The bottles being thrown is just, I don’t know, it kind of feels like it disrespects football and the nature of it,” he said, adding “It happened and we had to get away from it, but nah, it was loud. It was a cool environment. But we knew that coming in.” If you don’t know, Raiola began as a five-star prospect who once committed to Ohio State, before he signed the deal with the Cornhuskers. That explains why the crowd didn’t like the Patrick Mahomes look-alike.

But this wasn’t the very first time that fans have acted in this manner; previously, they did the same during the Texas vs. Georgia game. Jahdae Barron, a CB for Texas, was given a penalty for passing interference on a play in which it appeared that he did not commit the charge. And then, Texas fans, especially the students, went crazy when they showed a replay and the garbage started raining down.

So, Raiola is right to be concerned because it is a rising issue in college football, as seen by the Longhorns game and the OSU game. However, Raiola was also worried about the team’s performance on Saturday.

The Cornhuskers lost three straight games against ranked Big 10 opponents, dropping their season record to 5-3. Nebraska demonstrated their superior defense, but they still need to figure out how to increase their offensive output. In their last 3 games, Nebraska has scored less than 20 points. With 8 TDs in his first four games, rookie QB Raiola got the season off to a strong start. He’s been chilly ever since then, though, as he’s only had one touchdown pass and four interceptions.

Moreover, in the post-match conference, he mentioned, “I think we had our best play called. We just came up a little short and that’s what it is right now. And we’ll make sure that we hit those plays coming in the future.” Let’s see what they display for the fans in their next game against UCLA.
In Saturday’s game, the Huskers maintained a close score. Although there was room for improvement on three drives that resulted in field goals, Nebraska was unable to perform reliably when in OSU territory. The Huskers could only muster 152 passing yards at a pitiful 4.6 yards per attempt after being called for 7 penalties totaling 62 yards. In addition to limiting Ohio State’s potent run attack, Nebraska only converted one of ten third downs, demonstrating poor play.
