Born on February 9, 2007, in Mobile, Alabama, Ryan Williams marked his 17th birthday this year. To be honest, he shouldn’t be doing what he is doing. Many have pointed out that Alabama WR can’t vote, drink, or drive a car legally. What can he do? He can make some safeties and cornerbacks seem like they don’t know how to play a wide receiver. Williams isn’t the only WR who is the talk of the town. Another one is Ohio State Buckeyes’ WR Jeremiah Smith. We would have asked how Smith can pull off such crazy plays at 18, but Williams has the age argument going for him. Still! One-handed grabs, 100-yard game! He is a freshman. A freshman should spend his first season learning the trade. But, no! We have these two! Rightly, they are getting some attention from the pros!

Former New Orleans Saints running back

Mark Ingram, who currently works as an on-air personality for Fox Sports, mentioned two of his favorite college football players. “We are seeing elite freshman receivers, two of some of the best receivers ever seen at this age, playing college football right now, and they’re doing it right out of high school. One is Jeremiah Smith, and one is Ryan Williams. Two dogs, two beasties.” It’s not a surprise because how both of them played so far in the season justifies it. What caught Ingram’s attention was the age group of these guys. Williams was supposed to be in high school right now.

The two receivers have lived up to the hype, given their performances. In Ohio State’s game versus Michigan State, Jeremiah Smith had five receptions for 83 yards and one touchdown. On top of that, he rushed for 19 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. That’s the reason Mark Ingram called him and Williams “aliens.” The “alien” stuff, in Williams’ case, was seen by the national audience on Saturday.

Ryan Williams, in the Crimson Tide’s game against Georgia, had six receptions for 177 yards and scored a touchdown. And, of course, how can we forget his last-moment 75-yard touchdown? That turned out to be a game-changing moment for Alabama. Mark Ingram is amused by Williams, who is “doing 10 nasty stuff with his body control, catching the ball, sprinting, accelerating, to hit each other and then accelerate.” It was made possible because of his fast pace and agility on the field, given his athleticism to catch and run. Later, it was revealed that Williams’ touchdown grab is counted as the 12th-longest pass in Alabama’s program history.

Imagine, we are just four games into their college football career. Fair to say, the praise is just getting started!

Recently, the director of scouting, Andrew Ivnis, and national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna also praised these guys after watching their plays in the Ohio vs. Michigan game and Alabama vs. Georgia game. “Ryan Williams is still the hottest thing in the college football world,” Petagna said.

That’s quite impressive for a freshman wide receiver just taking baby steps toward his goal. According to Ivnis, it’s difficult to choose between the two and tell who’s better. It’s like choosing that “one scoop’ in an ice cream parlor. We understand the struggle to choose between the two. Smith was voted the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after his Week 5 performance.

So far, Smith is averaging 91 yards/game, has had five TDs, and his total yards are 364. The best part? He is yet to have a game without a touchdown. With all that anxiety over transitioning from high school to college football, we have Jeremiah, who is making it so easy that many would confuse him as a senior.

On the other hand, we have Ryan Williams. Recent headlines have proved that Williams has an edgy streak to him. The way he mocked the Bulldogs with his Instagram DP shows that he will not hesitate to rub it in opponents’ faces. Record? 16 receptions for 462 yards and 5 amazing touchdowns. Williams’ plays deserve to be experienced live. They’re that scintillating. Let’s hope both continue to raise their games this season and keep making it a tough choice to choose between the two.
