When discussing the transfer portal, it’s important to remember that everything can change instantly. If you’re not convinced, ask Florida fans and head coach Billy Napier. Many people were taken aback when 4-star cornerback Jaelen Waters switched his commitment from the Gators on Saturday. He had been committed to the program since June. But lately, amidst the constant portal lure, it seems the kid changed his mind and started looking for a better option for his future. This raises the question: which program is Waters considering? The latest ON3 discussion blew the gaff.
ON3’s Steve Wiltfong made a head-turning prediction for him to commit to Miami next. To further confirm the stance, On3 analyst Josh Newberg brought out Izubee Charles and set the prediction game on fire. ”Miami’s really turning up for Jaelen Waters, who’s been down to campus two times in the last two months. So, I do think this is something that’s going to happen rather sooner than later, and you know, I think this has Miami written all over it,” Charles dropped a bombshell the Miami fans were waiting for.

But this is just a blow upon a blow for beleaguered Napier. They lost their DB coach, Will Harris, to Miami and Cristobal, and that kind of triggered another loss just within a week. ”I think the Harris move to Miami was kind of that final nail in the coffin for the Gators since the start of the new year,” the Cane Sports analyst chimed in.
When asked about a potential timeline for the Hurricanes to gain another Florida talent, he said, ‘‘I wouldn’t be surprised if this happens in the next week or so.” That’s really some interesting intel to believe, but if Waters lands in Miami, he will have a strong start under coach Harris, who was his primary recruiter at Florida.
Harris, meanwhile, didn’t forget to pay his heartfelt thanks to Napier and the Gators while addressing the backlash from Florida fans. “Gator Nation— Love me or hate me, I understand. Either way, it was one cool a__ season. Again, business is business,” the new Canes Safeties coach wrote over X. But that doesn’t blur the fact that he’s really pulling out another top recruit for the program alongside him.

Jaelen Waters said Miami feels like home
Waters verbally chose Florida over a big pool of 53 other scholarship offers on his table. He’s an astonishing CB prospect in the entire nation, standing tall at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds. Big Ten champion Oregon, in-state option Florida State, and Southeastern Conference representatives LSU and Texas A&M all have tried their hands at pursuing the standout CB but couldn’t make it their way.
However, Miami has consistently been at the top of Waters’ list of targets. The reason is simple. He gets the home vibe at both schools. Waters told On3’s Chad Simmons in January, “Florida and Miami are two home schools for me because I live in Florida. They’re always pushing for me. It is Miami; the coaches want me there, and it is always great to be around the people at Miami,” Waters said.

Now, given that he has already paid four visits to the UM, the coaches out there showed him the lifestyle, the environment, the progress, and the overall culture, and successfully made a stronger-than-ever impression. So, it’s just a matter of time before the kid announces his official tie-up with the Canes going forward.
