Is DJ Uiagalelei really the future of FSU football after that Boston College debacle?

Back in August, the Heisman odds had set the bar high for the Florida State Seminoles quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. However, when it came to real action, Uiagalelei has been lighting the field, just not in the way anyone hoped. During the September 2 face-off between FSU and Boston College Eagles, while FSU fans thought of brimming in high spirits on Labor Day night, Uiagalelei’s first half against the Eagles was on for the (read: dark) ages.

Does that mean the QB’s NFL dreams are crushed? At least, the FSU Selection Committee’s choices are being questioned now, leaving fans to come up with a new chant.

When it comes to quarterback struggles, FSU is walking on thin ice. While the Seminoles had been hanging their dreams on Uiagalelei, the September 2 feat landed them a dose of reality after how things went positive for them in Ireland and their home campaign in Tallahassee. The Eagles rushed into halftime with a 14-6 lead. This was enough to crush FSU’s Uiagalelei dreams. So much so that it made Senior National Columnist Connor O’Gara question, “Wonder what the selection committee thinks of Florida State’s QB play.”

Among the 27 passing attempts made by the QB on Monday night, he had recorded just 11 completions. Uiagalelei’s power had taken a backseat when he missed three consecutive shots to the end zone. When he finally threw an interception on a fourth-down conversion attempt, his pass fell into the hands of Eagles’ Max Tucker.

It took only two more plays for Boston College to score a touchdown and step into the second half with a 21-6 lead. And BOOM! Uiagalelei fan club just had a mass exodus as they started vibing to their favorite anthem, ‘We want Brock‘.

Meet the freshman QB all ready to challenge DJ Uiaglelei

What to know about their new favorite “Brock”? He is none other than the backup QB Brock Glenn. The fans now strongly root for the 6-foot-2 red-shirt freshman to take over. Going by the 247Sports’ Composite rankings, the Seminoles’ backup QB has been ranked as the No.30 QB in the class and No.481 in the whole country.

ESPN Analyst and 12-year NFL Vet Dan Orlovsky’s tweet on September 3 while the game was still on further intensified the suspense. He tweeted, “FSU needs to make a QB change.” Wondering how the backup stands much behind Uiagalelei when it comes to the experience garnered over the years and yet gaining the craze. While that’s definitely concerning, Glenn has an edge over Uiagalelei. The backup started two games for the Seminoles in 2023 during the ACC Championship and the Orange Bowl.

Brock Glenn’s numbers have remained with the FSU fans. The backup QB completed 19 passes in 51 attempts for 229 yards and 2 interceptions. All these make DJ Uiagalelei’s ride ahead even tougher. What about his early-round NFL Draft dream? He would probably get left-swiped!
