Can DJ Uiagalelei bounce back after a rough start, or is this a sign of more struggles?

The college football season is here, baby, and for FSU, it definitely didn’t start off well. We saw the Yellow Jackets rise against the Seminoles and dominate the first game with a 24-21 score. Till the 3rd quarter of the game, it was a 14-14 tie between both teams. That’s when Jamal Hayes stole the show by grabbing a lead for the Yellow Jackets. Finally, Yellow Jackets kicker Aiden Birr secured the win with a walk-off field goal. While it was all glory and joy for Georgia Tech, fans blasted FSU’s QB DJ Uiagalelei over his performance during the game. However, HC Mike Norvell came in quick for the rescue.

On Florida State Football – Warchant TV on August 25th, Mike Norvell did not waste any time in defending DJ and his overall performance. “I thought DJ did some good things,” Norvell mentioned. The kid did a solid job when it came down to the 4th quarter drives and some major calls during the game. However, Norvell also did agree that there is still much-needed improvement required for the team to be better. “There’s some opportunities that we’re going to be able to grow from and at the end of the day we have to be more explosive,” he noted. However, the fans were not impressed. “Might finish the year averaging negative air yards per attempt,” is what a fan had noted on X after the game was over. The question that’s probably plaguing the fans right now is if FSU will even manage to qualify for the playoffs because if we look at DJ’s overall stats from the game, they were below average.

The kid threw for around 190+ yards. That isn’t even the worst part. The kid recorded 0 touchdowns in the entire game. The entire offense of the team had a tough time against what the Yellow Jackets had. The Seminoles managed to pull in around 2 TDs from a total of 31 attempts. Everyone had thought that this was an easy win for FSU. The offense being so weak let the entire team down and helped Georgia Tech grab the win. However, Norvell is still optimistic about what comes next. While DJ managed to disappoint the fans, FSU has another player who did rise to make a name for himself.

Fans got their mind blown when Ryan Fitzgerald managed to lock in a field goal. What’s so surprising about that, you ask? Well, the kid managed to land a 59-yard field goal. This kick is marked as the second-longest in FSU’s entire history. Not only that, with this goal, Ryan managed to tie the match between the Yellow Jackets and the Seminoles in the second quarter.

Earlier in the match, the kid had also landed a 52-yard kick as well. This gives FSU and FSU fans a much-needed moral boost. While they are set to go up against the Eagles on September 3rd, let’s hope DJ and Norvell manage to work out the team’s weak offense.
