Will Diego Pavia's past triumphs haunt Auburn, or can the Tigers finally tame their tormentor?

The Vanderbilt Commodores are already on cloud nine. After all, they aced their massive victory over Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama. As the Commodores QB Diego Pavia looks for a third straight win against Auburn Tigers, the Tigers QB Eugene Asante lands a warning to Pavia to take things easy. After all, he did not “forget” how Pavia had given them a hard time back in 2023. While the Tigers HC Hugh Freeze is “sick” of the Commodores signal-caller, other Tigers players join him to share their mixed feelings about their incoming face-off with none other than their tormentor, Pavia the Great who will be with Vanderbilt this season.

History says, that Auburn and Vanderbilt faced off against each other, 44 times and the score has been neck-to-neck. The Tigers:22, the Commodores: 21 while they tied once. Even though the Tigers won last season 31-15, this year the Commodores have a big weapon. But the Tigers LB seems to be sure about things to be in their favor when in an interview he stated, “For me, it’s certainly a thing where you don’t forget anything that transpire.” Why is this clear warning for Pavia out of the blue?

Well, Asante knows where he came from while dishing out the bold claim. Even though the QB is new for the Commodores, the Tigers already got the taste of his rage back in 2023. Last season, he played for New Mexico State. If you are a true Auburn fan, you must still be remembering the November 18 date, right? At the Jordan-Hare Stadium, the Aggies blew off the Tigers 31-10 and the squad is indebted to Pavia for gifting them a magical evening till today. The New Mexico State QB threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 35 yards.

So while Asante seems to be very happy about Pavia switching jerseys “I’m excited that he’s having all the success he’s had this season,” he drops a harsh reminder, “I don’t forget and I’m going to make sure this team don’t forget.” Well, the Auburn HC already seems to be bitter about the rival QB.

Auburn’s secret weapon to contain Diego Pavia

As Pavia is finding success at his new home coming off passing 1,534 yards and 13 touchdowns, the Auburn HC Freeze is high on hopes to slow him down. In his weekly press conference on Monday, October 28, he jokingly claimed, “I’m sick of seeing that quarterback. I’ve had enough of him. What a competitor he is and the job that (Vanderbilt head coach) Clark Lea and his staff have done there.” After their mentor, other players too poured in with their feelings about facing off against Pavia.

The Auburn defensive end Keldric Faulk is, however, excited about playing against the Vandy QB, “Honestly, I’m happy we get to play him again. We did not play our best ball against him last year.” On the other hand, while the Tigers linebacker Keyron Crawford didn’t play against New Mexico State last season, he is aware of Pavia’s rage.

“He’s a threat. Like, he’s different, but he’s also a threat,” commented the player. Seems like Freeze already has his plan ready to stop Diego Pavia. They are now counting on their freshman linebacker Demarcus Riddick, who Asante tagged as “the best QB spy in the country.” Now let’s see what fate has in store for the Vandy squad.
