Is Paul Finebaum's optimism about LSU's future under Brian Kelly justified after the USC defeat?

I think that game, people will be able to turn off the TV and go to sleep early that night because it won’t be that close.” ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum stated this a week ago, while talking about Sunday’s game between LSU and USC, of course favoring LSU. He believed that it was going to be an easy win for LSU and Brian Kelly. He added that he expects Lincoln Riley to showcase that he is an average coach after USC on Sunday.

But to his shock, it went the opposite of what he expected. LSU lost the game miserably. As a result, the head coach expressed his anger in front of the media and LSU’s loss deeply affected Brian Kelly. After that, Paul Finebaum expressed his views both on LSU’s upcoming schedule and on Brian Kelly’s aggressive post-game appearance.

Paul Finebaum hit the right chords by accurately describing what went wrong for LSU. He maintained his calm while criticizing the program. “This program, it’s a crushing loss, but it’s not over for LSU,” Finebaum added by saying, “The reason it’s not over is they have a favorable schedule. For those who woke up and remember, this is 2024. a new era. There is no game they can’t win on that schedule.” Moreover, he pointed out the fact that LSU doesn’t have Georgia this year; “they have Alabama at home. That’s important. They also have an ole miss at home, which may be the third or fourth-best team.” He added that LSU also doesn’t have Texas, and that’s why they are missing two of the top five teams in the nation.

“It’s on him” – Paul Finebaum believes Brian Kelly should channel emotions during game, not after

On top of that, he took a jibe at head coach Brian Kelly. “So they have to figure out a way back, though, and I saw enough from that team that would give me hope,” Finebaum stated. “What I can’t stand every year on this Monday, Greeny is having to answer for some stupid decision made, whether it’s on the sidelines or in discipline for LSU.” He laughed by saying, “When Brian Kelly walked into that press conference and showed emotion, then it was too late.” He went on and explained that he didn’t want to watch that emotion after the game. He wants to see that before and during the game.
