Who could have thought that the 2023 Big Ten Championship winner, Michigan Wolverines, would have to undergo such an ugly fate? Fans kinda knew things might turn a little different with debut HC Sherrone Moore replacing someone like Jim Harbaugh; But never in their wildest dreams did they imagine witnessing the Wolverines in such an ugly state. And guess what the most concerning part is? As a Heisman voter pinpointed, it’s the QB situation. It has been completely rotten. But can we hold Moore responsible for the situation? Maybe it’s time to drop our blindfolds and face the truth of the mistakes caused by the GREAT Harbaugh when he was around.
The Michigan fans are surely having a hard time. Once the program was known for having one of the best QBs, JJ McCarthy, and now the same program is in deep waters due to QB problems. Maybe, that’s what you call fate! On October 26, the podcast host and Heisman voter Zach Gelb dished out a bold claim, “Soon Michigan is going to see if John O’Korn has any eligibility left for the rest of the season. That’s how bad the QB situation has been.” For your information, John O’Korn is their 5th QB. But why will Moore have to stoop so low in his roster?

Till now, the Wolverines enjoyed a steady stream of prototypical NFL-ready quarterbacks known for their tall stature with rifle arms and solid decision-making skills. Initially, Moore counted on his QB Davis Warren. But the former walk-on appeared to be struggling in his first three games and only averaged 148 yards per game topped with two touchdowns, six interceptions, and FOUR sacks.
Still, it didn’t look much concerning since Alex Orji was there to take the reins against USC. But maybe, Moore’s squad is still not sure about Orji as he has been kept behind a walk-on just like last season. The QB failed to show stability while facing off Washington Huskies, whom they defeated last season, and ended up getting benched by the HC in the second quarter. It was then time for Jack Tuttle. Sadly, he too turned out to be a big flop as against Illinois as he accounted for four total turnovers (2 interceptions and 2 fumbles). Well, that was not expected from a seventh-year veteran. Now what if I say that Harbaugh is the man behind all the problems?

Sherrone Moore stays resilient after Jim Harbaugh’s sabotage
The 2024 has been a rocky start for the Wolverines. Already they had spent a good portion of January waiting for Harbaugh to confirm his decision. He announced on January 24 and just two days later Moore was announced as the HC. And what a bad time to take over! By then, all the QBs in the transfer portal are already committed somewhere else. Now the question is, being a man of experience, Harbaugh might have predicted the future. Then what was he doing?
Analysts Stewart Mandel and Bruce Feldman didn’t inch a bit to hold the ex-HC responsible for Michigan’s condition today. On The Audible With Stew & Bruce podcast, they pointed their finger at Harbaugh, “I just think if you’re as long as you’re the head coach of Michigan or any team you know, you have a responsibility to make sure you have the best possible roster the next year, whether you’re going to be there or not.”

But we must say, Sherrone Moore has been doing a good job here. Even though the Wolverines’ QB situation is a clear mess, he is taking baby steps to fill the barren program left by Jim Harbaugh. The HC is now giving his blood, sweat, and tears to land one of the nation’s top cornerbacks, 4-star Shamari Earls. Not just 4-star, No.1 overall prospect in the 2025 class, 5-star QB Bryce Underwood is all under Moore’s radar. That’s what you call spirit, kudos to Sherrone Moore!
