Does Caleb Williams' jersey retirement mark him as the greatest USC Trojan of all time?

Today has to be the hardest day for anyone who’s been in love with that gold and yellow No.13 jersey. Being the 8th Heisman winner for the Trojans, Caleb Williams has established himself as a legend in the world of CFB. When he was starting for the team, the Trojans were a mammoth. With him leaving for the NFL, perhaps it was about time USC retired his jersey.

On September 6th, USC took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute regarding the entire thing. “Honored among our Trojan greats… number 13 has officially been retired,” USC noted in the caption of their Instagram post. The video that they posted to Instagram had a mix of congratulations from some big names. Musician John Legend was the first one to congratulate Williams, followed by HC Lincoln Riley, and then the entire time congratulating him. However, there was one surprise guest no one had thought would be there. When that rhythmic beat from “Still DRE” kicked on, you knew that Snoop Dogg was in the house, folks. Snoop Dogg also went on to congratulate Williams for this achievement. “I’m here to congratulate you, bro,” the rapper mentioned. Finally, John Legend was spotted again at the end of the clip. “You deserve it all,” John mentioned.

Caleb Williams did a lot for the Trojans. In the 3 seasons where we saw him play, the dude managed to lock in over 90 touchdowns and record a completion rate of more than 66%. The 2022 season was massive for him. Leading the team to an 11-3 win record.

However, we gotta break the bad news as well, folks. The moment Caleb got drafted, it kind of marked the end of an era for the Trojans because Lincoln Riley, right now, is suffering. The entire offense and defense of the team is in a weird spot, and no one else is ready to take up the responsibility of saving the team. Or are we wrong?

Can Miller Moss rise as Lincoln Riley’s savior?

“I’m so underwhelmed by what he has done there. He train wrecked it,” this was something Paul Finebaum had said back on August 13th during an episode of ESPN First Take. Finebaum’s concerns were quite valid. The 2023 season was when the downfall of the Trojans began. Riley recorded his worst season as an HC that year and the team lost 5 games. However, Riley still has Miller Moss. While it is true that Moss still has a long way to go, we are still hopeful that he will take the Trojan to some great heights. Moss has always shadowed Caleb as he was the backup QB.

What’s your perspective on:

Does Caleb Williams' jersey retirement mark him as the greatest USC Trojan of all time?

Have an interesting take?

The dude has racked in around 9 TDs while only appearing for 12 games. That is a good ratio. Moss has the quirks and has allowed Riley to form a solid team around him this year. We saw how good USC did during their season opener against the Tigers. Despite everyone thinking that Riley’s team was going to fail, they secured a 27-20 win. While we still don’t know how well the rest of the season will go, we can only hope that it’s not as bad as last year.
