Is Travis Hunter's bond with Deion Sanders a testament to modern mentorship or just social media fodder?

Deion Sanders has already been performing his Daddy duties in the field, with sons Shedeur and Shilo around. But now he needs to do some extra work. As his third son (not biological) too, looks forward to him and has placed Deion on a pedestal. And that’s none other than his dual-threat Travis Hunter. The Colorado two-way star follows Coach Prime’s advice blindly and the coach has filled in his dad’s shoes when he is on the gridiron. But obsessing over Deion like a father figure did not come easy, as Hunter got trolled harshly on social media, a few days back.

You can imagine how challenging it must have been for Hunter to be on the same boat with Deion’s kids Shilo and Shedeur, right? Yet the two-way phenom has managed to be in the limelight. At times, he even outperformed Coach Prime’s son. So Deion now quite happily has accepted him as his son. And if you think that we are just jumping to conclusions based on clear rumors, here comes Hunter with some updates right from the Buffs hood. On the Travis Hunter Show, the Heisman race contender shared his everyday routine, a big part of which revolves around Deion. “We text every morning before game day, I just text him “let’s go” he’ll come back and he’ll say whatever he need to say…that gets my morning going just have gotta have that routine,” revealed Hunter.

You might be waiting to know what Coach Prime’s daily shot of motivation for Hunter is. It’s those little and simple sentences that are powerful enough to boost the young athlete. “He always tells me stay low on the defensive side of the b – -l and be you on offensive side of the b – -l …believe in yourself, have fun.”

Remember running to your dad whenever you got stuck with your homework? That’s exactly what Hunter does as he stated, “I go ask him like coach what I need to work on on the offense side of the tell me and what I need to work on defense side.” On a side note, do you know that the coach-player duo is often spotted outside the gridiron and by the lakes?

Travis Hunter falls prey to social media rage for excessive ask

On multiple occasions, armed with fishing rods, Deion and Hunter heads out for fishing expeditions. But it often ends up with a not-so-sweet experience for Coach Prime. Like, on one particular occasion, the fishing score was Hunter:10, Deion: 3! This left the Buffs HC jokingly looking for his mom as a place to hide from the embarrassment. That’s Deion and Hunter, much like father-son, nitpicking one another.

Maybe, the Buffs two-way star deep inside truly believes it. But why is it so? Remember a few days back NBA King LeBron James and son Bronny made a record of becoming the first father-son duo to play in an NBA game together during a 118-114 preseason loss? Deion got too charged up and took up the challenge with his QB son Shedeur. “I’m COMING Back to play with my sons to! This is HISTORICAL! Give this man his FLOWERS NOW! This speaks to Fatherhood, Excellence & Longevity. @KingJames @BronnyJamesJr,” Coach Prime posted on IG.

Have an interesting take?

Seeing the IG post, Travis Hunter dropped in with what came off as a joking reply, “Ok now why I’m not in this picture.” Surprisingly, Deion Sanders too poured in and replied with a GIF that read, “I can fix that.” However, these exchanges did not sit well with the fans as one of them got extra harsh dropping a brutal jab for the two-way star, “Don’t he got his own dad?” But again, when the Buffs HC himself is fine with it, why bother?
