Does Coach Prime's family-first approach make him the ultimate role model for sports dads?

“I’m a divorced father, but I didn’t stop fathering. I built my life around my kids. I ain’t no baby daddy, I’m a father,” Deion Sanders had firmly stated talking about his fatherhood goals. And so far the 57-year-old has adapted every trick in the book to keep his promise. From carefully crafting his sons Shedeur and Shilo’s path to the NFL, to keeping his other kids close and celebrating their wins, Sanders hasn’t left any stone unturned. And this time, it’s his youngest kid who’s made Papa Sanders proud. But before we get to the meat of the story…

Shelomi Sanders—a 20-year-old basketball prodigy—was born to Sanders and his second wife Pilar on December 14, 2003. Initially (in 2022), she had signed play with Jackson State, and even scored a three-point shot However, controversy erupted when the budding star entered the transfer portal just months later with her father calling the decision “stupid”. But, Shelomi knew exactly what she was doing, as she revealed the backstory behind it. “I don’t want to say anything too bad… It just wasn’t good energy. It wasn’t good vibes. There wasn’t enough being poured into me as a player and young lady. If I didn’t leave when I did, I promise you I would’ve quit,” she had said during a live interview earlier this year. Notably, she had a playtime of just 11 minutes across five games last season with the Buffs. She eventually joined the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs.

As angry as her father was back then, it seems Coach Prime has finally come around. And why wouldn’t he? The results are right before our own eyes…

Shelomi made sure to leave a strong impression in her debut match. She scored her career-high 14 points to help her team lead to a 96-50 against Oakwood. And guess what? Sanders did not leave a chance to make her feel special and celebrate her debut.

Flaunting a brand new eyewear from $90 million dollar worth company, Blenders Eyewear, she wrote on Instagram, “Thank you for sending sum since I cannot raid your office anymore.”  His gesture definitely makes her journey more memorable for Shelomi as she steps into the spotlight at her new school. Do you know she just played for 10 minutes in her debut? Her scores do not look like that, right? She grabbed one rebound, provided one assist and recorded two steals. It looks like she is going to follow in her father and elder brother’s footsteps and make a name for herself in the competitive world.

Like the Buffs struggled to put in a good performance last year and could not reach the playoffs, similarly, Shelomi did not have a great year either. She struggled to find her place at her former university. She had scored one basket, a 3-pointer against Air Force. However, this season she is coming all prepared. Let’s see how Sanders and his ex-wife reacted to her Shelomi’s impressive debut.

Deion and Pillar Sanders celebrate Shelomi’s debut performance

The Sanders family is filled with sports enthusiasts. How could Shelomi stay behind? Last season she played for the University of Colorado. Alabama A&M is her third college basketball program and a return to HBCU athletics. Head coach is so proud of his daughter. As soon as the game rapped up, he took to social media to appreciate her performance and celebrate with her: “Shelomi Sanders balled out in her debut with Alabama A&M.”
