Is Deion Sanders the game-changer CU Buffs need to dominate college football?

It’s a new day, and it’s a newer dawn for the Colorado Buffaloes. The horns have been sharpened and the hoofs have been cleansed and now, it’s time to battle it out against the Bisons, who will be their first-ever opponent in their season-opener. In preparation for this challenge, the CU staff showcased the new and improved roster and the dynamic between the players that has never been seen before.

Funnily enough, the Bisons and the Buffaloes aren’t that different from each other when it comes to the real world. A major feature of distinction is that the Bison tends to have a bigger head than a Buffalo but when it comes to college football, any fan would be able to tell that the Buffalo here always has had the bigger head. Coach Prime and his team will go into this season with a motivation to shut down all the doubters and haters but if their performance is anything similar to that of the 2023 season, then there will be no more salvaging of the situation. As for now, the Buffaloes breathe heavily as coaches show their form and camaraderie.

‘Thee Pregame Show’ took to the training camp of the Colorado Buffaloes on August 14th and saw the coaches and the players participating in an intense workout together. In one of the segments, a member of the coaching staff spoke in great detail about the status of the squad and how the camaraderie is at an all-time high between the players, which will prove to be of pivotal importance when they go against North Dakota in their season-opener.

He emphasized the “trust” that the players share and said, “They’re embracing the work. I think they’re competing at a very high level. These practices have been very competitive, and that’s important. That’s the only way you get better, so I think we’re in a good point right now.” Thus, the new and reconstructed squad of the Buffaloes seems to be enveloped with an aura of trust and faith in each other, but will it be enough to see them make it into a playoff game is the question at hand. With so many expectations and hopes from the program, the team is liable to be one of the top 25 teams this season. Right? Well, not so much. Let’s take a look at the 2024 AP Preseason College Football Poll that gave the team a harsh reality check.

The Colorado Buffaloes stand at the bottom with a single vote

Just a few days ago, the much anticipated Associated Press released their preseason Top 25 college football teams’ list. With a no-brainer, the Georgia Bulldogs lead the race, breezing past number 2, Ohio State Buckeyes, and in the third position is the Big 10 rookie, Oregon, Texas at the fourth spot, and lastly, Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama at the 5th position. You’d think with all the love and admiration that Deion receives, the team would at least make it within the bottom 5 but unfortunately, it’s worse than that.

Have an interesting take?

Call it a silver lining or not. The Buffaloes didn’t make it into the AP Preseason Top 25 but did receive one single vote for participation. The team was the only program to receive a single vote and was included with the other 17 teams that didn’t make it into the top 25. The road of redemption for Colorado keeps getting steeper and steeper. However, if they do manage to produce brilliant results this season, the success and the glory will be all the more worth it since every critic and organization continues to give them the shorter end of the stick.
