Is Deion Sanders' loyalty to Colorado stronger than the allure of a high-paying NFL job?

Is Coach Prime leaving the Colorado Buffaloes? What would it take for Deion Sanders to leave Boulder for greener pastures? One group of analysts believed “it’s always going to come down the money.” Money, really? Can you imagine the Buffs leader leaving for money after all the promises he has made to the fanbase about turning it around? On his part, he has turned it around. 7-2, in control of his destiny, to make the conference championship game and a likely playoffs berth. With success, comes opportunities. When Nick Saban made his mark at LSU in the early 2000s, the Miami Dolphins came calling, and the GOAT moved on to the bigger league. What about Deion Sanders? With Stephen A Smith openly calling for Jerry Jones to hire Prime Time to turn things around at the Cowboys, where does his heart lie? Do we have an answer?

On November 13, Deion Sanders, fresh off registering three consecutive victories, appeared on an episode of Speak on FS1. Former NFL player Michael Irvin, a member of the crew on the show, asked Deion a question that had been on everyone’s mind. Would he be kind enough to take the Dallas job and bring the team out of its never-ending tryst with misery? Coach Prime sensed that Irvin was setting up the scene to ask the question, and initially, he tried to deflect it, asking the NFL legend to avoid the question, saying, “Don’t start that.”

It didn’t end there, and Irvin ultimately asked the question? Coach Prime responded in true Prime Time fashion. He picked up his laptop, moved around the room and showed the Boulder field in the background, telling the crew of the short, “I love it where I am.” That’s all the confirmation the Buffs’ fans were looking for. Coach Prime loves it in Colorado, and one wonders, why wouldn’t he?

His haters (read: Paul Finebaum) are now putting him in the discussions for the Coach of the Year. His fans wait for every Saturday to see their favorite head coach’s team step onto the field and show the world why the hype is real and here to stay. Plus, where is the money talk coming out of? Let’s take you to the crux of the matter.

Is it all about the money for Deion Sanders?

Colorado without Buffs? Something sounds off, right? No one should imagine Buffs without Sanders. He has given his heart to the football program, and we all can witness the improvement. But in the past few weeks, there have been speculations that he is going to join Florida State. On 5th November, RJ Young was part of Keyshawn Johnson’s Youtube show, All Facts No Brakes with Keyshawn Johnson, where they discussed whether Sanders will stay with Colorado or move on.

Johnson, the host of the show, mentioned that Sanders loves the Buffs. He backed him and mentioned, “I understand the geographic location, but he loves Colorado, and I know people think he’s just a fast talker and he slicks Willy, and he just keeps popping all the time. I get what they think, but he’s part of that community now, and he can win and change lives and do all the different things. Colorado can pay the same amount of money to a degree; they can give the same amount of money.” He tried to highlight the importance of community ties and personal commitment in coaching but also emphasized that, in the end, things are going to come back to money.

Have an interesting take?

Young jumped in and brought to the notice that Florida State can be a big competition for the Buffs if it comes to money. We all know Sanders’ connection with Florida State; he started his college career with them in 1985 and played for the program till 1988. “Florida State can match and more if they can do better. You know what I’m saying; it’s less for me about what he means to Colorado is what does Colorado mean to him, and before he moved there to be the head coach who was Boulder Colorado to Prime, I mean, the man made it work in a water crisis in Jackson Mississippi, he could make you work at Florida State if you wanted to.”

So, there you have it. We get the links, but Florida State seems unlikely at this point. The roster is in shambles, and the recruiting does not look good as well. Of course, Coach Prime can take on another project and make it work. But then, why leave the Buffs? Surely, a longer and consistent success looks better on the resume than shorter (and possibly unsustained) successes at multiple places?
