They say behind every successful man there is a woman. Well, the Colorado Buffaloes HC Deion Sanders must be agreeing to every bit of it. After all, he has grown up under the safe shelter and guidance of a very strong woman, his mother Connie Knight. The 57-year-old HC never misses out on the chance to shower his mother with love on social media. March 8 marked a very special day for Deion’s mum. Along with her proud son, her granddaughter Deiondra too celebrated Connie. Not just with his words, earlier on one occasion, Coach Prime came with a heartfelt gesture in the form of a unique ‘love letter’.
Well, Deion’s childhood would have been a mess had not Connie taken control of it. As we all know, the Buffs HC’s father Mims Sanders was a d–g addict. That’s what made the mother work hard and give her everything to raise Deion and her other kids. This inspired the Buffs HC to be on the right path and be more like his mother- a God-fearing, assiduous human being. As Coach Prime once revealed, “I’m stubborn because I love to work… but I’ve never, in my life, seen my mama take a day off. I can’t recall a time when I was at home and my mom said, ‘I’m not going to work because I don’t feel good.’” On March 8, as the world celebrated Women’s Day, it was the birthday of the most special woman in Deion’s life.

He shared a couple of snaps on IG and came with a long heartfelt caption. The note began with, “Happy Birthday to the Greatest Mother in the game. My mama just wanted me to make it & she always told me to stay out the streets, don’t do no d—s or drink, don’t get these girls pregnant & work hard & be great at whatever you do.” In a way, Connie has been the guiding light, without being in the driver’s seat in Deion’s life. Rather she dropped guidance here and there. Having grown up watching Connie hustle, the Buffs HC gave her the greatest gift in 1989.
That was the year when Deion was drafted as a first-round NFL Draft pick and relieved his mother of all responsibilities. The proud son ended the long birthday message with a shoutout for Connie. “Young athletes yo mama’s could learn from @mommaconnie21 She’s a Real 1.” Being Connie’s first grandchild, Deiondra Sanders whom she lovingly calls “Ondra” too posted on IG and wrote, “Happy birthday Grandma ❤️.” Later on the birthday girl reposted stating “Thank you Ondra! 💕.” While we are yet to know what gift Connie would receive from her son, last year Deion did come up with a heartfelt move to make her feel special.

A special sneaker story for Deion Sanders
Well, we all know how big a sneakerhead Deion Sanders is. That’s when the Buffs HC thought of bringing his two loves together. He took his sneaker game to a whole new level in a way to make Connie feel special. For so long Deion had his own collection of Nike Air Diamond Turf 1 in a series of colorways. However, to keep Connie’s legacy alive in the coming years, he came up with a ‘Love Letter to Connie’ collection.
The colorway was too cool to resist. After all, the shades carried a deep personal significance as well. Normally, Coach Prime preferred his sneaker collection to go out in black gold, the OG Buffs color theme. But this time he went with a more intimate colorway. He kept it an all-red color scheme. After all, the bright red color symbolizes his love and respect for Connie.
