Woah, things are getting hot! Already, the Colorado Buffaloes fans are now in a sour mood. After all, they will be losing their favorite trio, Shedeur Sanders, Shilo Sanders, and Travis Hunter, to the 2025 NFL Draft. However, they have prepared themselves for this. But now what they have not prepared for is their favorite HC Deion Sanders leaving Boulder. Yes, going by the hush-hush, fearing an empty nest, Coach Prime too is looking for roles in the NFL. Surprised?
You shouldn’t be. After all, Deion had already dropped some hints that on one condition he would be willing to swap the wagons. That’s when Dallas Cowboys GM Jerry Jones is buckling up, planning to make it possible.

Jerry Jones’ bold move for Deion Sanders
The Mike McCarthy era is over in Dallas. The former HC got fired the Cowboys’ way. It has been confirmed that he will not be returning as the Dallas HC. After all, three decades have passed since the program won its last Super Bowl title. So Jones planned the big shake-up. McCarthy’s contract expired following a 7-10 season on January 8, and the Cowboys decided not to renew it anymore. So, obviously, the rumors started to do rounds about who’s the next HC. And as we all know, Jones loves to make a splash. Already the limelight was on the Wild Card Weekend finale between the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams. But the Cowboys’ GM is turning heads.

As reported by FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, “Sources: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has spoken with Colorado HC Deion Sanders about the team’s head coaching vacancy.” He continued, “Coach Prime is considered a top candidate, though the Cowboys plan to interview other candidates as part of the process, per team sources.” Now that’s enough of an attention-grabbing move for Jones, who had been eyeing Deion as a top candidate for quite some time now. The GM is even willing to go that extra mile to fulfill Deion’s condition.

In an interview, Coach Prime shared that he would only try his luck in the NFL under one condition. “The only I would consider, is to coach my sons…SONS,” Deion was pretty sorted with what he wanted. Now both Shilo and Shedeur in Dallas; how is that possible?

Jerry Jones and their 12th pick dilemma
Well, landing Deion’s quarterback son would not be an easy ride for Jones’ program. They already have a quarterback, Dak Prescott. The signal-caller brings with him a heavy-weight contract. So, parting ways with him, the Cowboys would have a hard time. As per the reports, in case the program wants to get rid of Prescott before June 1, they would have to take a dead cap hit of $103.2 million, which would be an NFL record. Now, let’s think that they have managed the Prescott hoopla, what’s next for Jones and Co.?

Dallas has the 12th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. That closes all gates to land Shedeur since Deion’s son is believed to be a top pick. In that case, the Cowboys will have to resort to Plan B. If they are so desperate to land Shedeur, the Cowboys could possibly package Dak with the 12th overall pick to trade up into the top three.
On the flip side, since Deion’s other son, Shilo, won’t be having many takers, Dallas could easily land the Buffs safety in the second or third round.
That’s how Adam Schefter rightly pointed out in the Deion Sanders x Dallas Cowboys collab, “There is a mutual interest there.” Jerry Jones would make the most use of the Deion Sanders factor to flip their luck after the Mike McCarthy drought. On the other hand, Coach Prime will be able to write another history with his sons under his wings, this time in the NFL.

However, Deion broke his silence, “I love Jerry and believe in Jerry. After you hang up, and process it, and think about it, it’s intriguing. But I love Boulder and everything there is about our team, the coaches, our student body and the community.” Let’s see if Coach Prime changes his mind last minute.
