Travis Hunter's one-hand catch was epic, but is Jimmy Horn Jr. the unsung hero of the game?

Colorado’s season opener against North Dakota State on August 29 at Folsom Field produced several highlights. But Travis Hunter stole the main point of interest with his unreal final 3-yard TD for the Buffs. Despite being tackled by the Bisons’ defender, the Paul Hornung Award winner pulled the move of a “glitch” when he snagged the football with one hand by his fingertips.

Of course, this play stole the public’s attention. But several players made Deion Sanders proud that night, so, for him, there are more players to laud than Travis Hunter alone. The Buffs HC isn’t going to forget the impression that Jimmy Horn Jr. left on him.

Deion Sanders made an appearance in a YouTube video by Romi Bean on September 5 in the Coach Prime’s Playbook ahead of the rivalry matchup against Nebraska. When the host asked about Travis Hunter’s spectacular one-handed catch in their season debut against NDSU, Deion Sanders said, “Travis is the master of the one-handed catches. His focus, his concentration, and there is no 50/50 [football] with Travis.” Still, he also shone the spotlight on Jimmy Horn Jr. saying, “But let’s not dismiss Jimmy Horn and what he brought to the table, the explosiveness that he brings.”

South Florida transfer Jimmy Horn Jr. recorded one of the four touchdowns the Buffs secured in their game opener. After Travis Hunter secured the first TD for Colorado with a 41-yard pass from Shedeur Sanders in the first quarter, Horn also made his mark in the same quarter with another 69-yard TD. Considering their first gameplay of the season, Hunter and Horn were equally explosive in their plays.

Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn are Deion Sanders’ winning weapons

Deion Sanders has some formidable weapons to take pride in this season. When it comes to speed, what many people would assume is that Travis Hunter has the best speed with a 40-yard dash time of 4.40 seconds. But guess who beat him? Jimmy Horn Jr. He finished that dash in 4.38 seconds. The Buffs WR scored 191 receiving yards and a touchdown, bringing to light the chemistry he had with Shedeur Sanders.

Travis Hunter, meanwhile, excelled at both WR and CB roles. He recorded 132 receiving yards and three TDs while allowing only 18 yards on 69 snaps. Colorado triumphed over NDSU 31-26 with these talents. Will they be able to execute the same energy in their next rivalry game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on September 7?
