Don’t know what with the revisionist theory here. As some claims, just don’t make any sense. Coach Prime’s firstborn, Deion Sanders Jr., has given a straight shot at it. The NFL draft is a way of sparking heated debates and wild predictions, but this year, it feels like the pot is boiling over. With the playoffs looming and teams like the Tennessee Titans pondering the future of their quarterback position, the spotlight has naturally turned toward the college game’s top talent. Yet, in a moment that could only be described as peak offseason chaos, one ESPN analyst’s hot take managed to light up social media and draw a fiery response from none other than Sanders Jr.

The controversy began when ESPN’s Mike Greenberg threw a curveball into the conversation about the 2025 NFL Draft. While many analysts have Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Canes’ Cam Ward as the presumptive No. 1 pick, Greenberg resurrected Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy as his top choice. A post shared by Football Forever informed, “ESPN’s Mike Greenberg believes J.J. McCarthy would be the top pick of the 2025 NFL Draft if he were in this year’s class. Would you take McCarthy over Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders?🤔”. It felt like a reach. McCarthy, who led Michigan to a national championship appearance last year and was the No. 10 pick in 2024, was suddenly being elevated above Sanders and Ward, two quarterbacks who’ve consistently dominated the narrative.

Deion Sanders Jr. wasn’t about to let that slide. The eldest son of Coach Prime took to Instagram to call Greenberg’s take “🧢,” a now-ubiquitous Gen-Z slang for “a lie.” It was a simple, direct rebuttal, but one that resonated loudly across social media. Sanders Jr.’s post amplified an already contentious debate, forcing fans and analysts alike to pick a side. Was McCarthy really worthy of being ranked ahead of Shedeur Sanders and Ward? Or was this just another case of revisionist history fueled by flashy narratives?

To Greenberg’s credit, his argument wasn’t entirely without merit. J.J. McCarthy is only 21 years old, a full year younger than Sanders and Ward, and his collegiate metrics suggest a high ceiling. But the comparison feels tenuous at best. Shedeur Sanders has been electric for the Buffs, showing off a cannon arm, precise footwork, and the kind of leadership that NFL scouts drool over. Cam Ward, meanwhile, has quietly put together an impressive résumé at Miami, making him another viable option for quarterback-needy teams.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper waded into the debate with a more measured take. “Quarterback, if you go there, there’s other options,” Kiper said on an ESPN show. “And I’ll bring up J.J. McCarthy’s name. He’s only 21 years of age… he’s a year younger than Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward.” Kiper’s comments highlight an age-old draft dilemma: do you bet on raw potential or proven production?

If we want to talk about competition, Shedeur Sanders and Cam have plenty within the league. The debate extends beyond just quarterbacks. Tennessee, holding the No. 1 pick, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, a generational two-way player, is another name in the mix. Hunter’s ability to dominate as both a wide receiver and cornerback makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in recent memory. But even with Hunter in the conversation, it’s hard to ignore the buzz around Shedeur Sanders. His combination of skill, pedigree, and marketability makes him the type of player teams dream about building around.

The Sanders family has long been at the center of the football world, with Coach Prime leading a resurgence at Colorado and Shedeur breaking records along the way. Seeing his brother overlooked struck a nerve. But all of them seem to ignore the elephant in the room.

Knock, Knock, Shedeur Sanders and Co., this is a Nittany Lion

Forget JJ and anyone. Penn State’s Abdul Carter might just leapfrog big names like Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter to become the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft—and for good reason. Even though the Nittany Lions fell heartbreakingly short in their 27-24 Orange Bowl loss to Notre Dame, Carter’s performance was nothing short of electric. The defensive dynamo tallied a sack and a tackle for loss, disrupting Notre Dame’s offense at every turn, and he did it all while battling through a heavily wrapped left shoulder injury. Talk about grit.

Carter was an absolute game-wrecker against Notre Dame, giving their QB1 Leonard and his offensive line nightmares. His relentless style of play has defined his stellar 2024 campaign, where he notched an eye-popping 11 sacks, forced two fumbles, and recorded 40 solo tackles. It’s safe to say this season was a breakout moment for the linebacker, solidifying him as one of the best defensive prospects in the nation.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid already has him pegged as a potential No. 6 overall pick to the Las Vegas Raiders, but don’t be surprised if Carter’s name sneaks into the Top 3—or even No. 1— when all is said and done.
