Following their remarkable win against the Cincinnati Bearcats, the Buffs are enjoying their bye week. With Coach Prime and the rest of the team taking some time off, it looks like the Buffs head coach’s eldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., finally has some time to observe other teams’ gameplay. However, his recent revelation of siding with Colorado’s rival team is not something that was expected.
Today, after Texas Tech’s neck-to-neck thriller of a win against Iowa State (23-22), Deion Sanders Jr. took to X to share his excitement, writing, “Turn Up Texas Tech!” Now, you may know Shedeur and Shilo’s elder brother as the person behind the camera, capturing everything to do with the Buffaloes. From Jackson State to Colorado, it’s like Deion Jr. has been his father and the team’s personal videographer. That’s evident in the fact that every time Coach Prime posts any content on his socials, his eldest son always gets credit.
So, after Texas Tech’s performance against Iowa seemed to have intrigued Sanders Jr. enough for him to tweet about it, it looks like the 30-year-old is finally stepping out of his father’s shadow in Boulder. But don’t you agree that it’s also a little weird that Deion Jr. supported Texas Tech, especially considering the Buffaloes’ next matchup?

Next week, the Colorado Buffaloes (6-2) take on Texas Tech (6-3) in a crucial Big 12 matchup at the Jones AT&T Stadium. Both teams will be coming in hot, each boasting 6 wins. While Texas will look to start a winning streak, Colorado will look to add to their two wins on the bounce. And it’s a big game for both programs. After their win against Cincinnati, the Buffaloes are up two spots in the AP Top 25. But more importantly, they’re staring down at the opportunity of making the Big 12 title game and maybe even the 12-team College Football Playoff.
“Every game is a playoff game to us. It’s been that way all season,” Deion Sanders said. “We’re planning on approaching all of them with passion, with purpose, with consistency, with focus and a dog-like attitude.” As for the Red Raiders, their win against Iowa State made them bowl-eligible. Owing to Iowa State’s No. 11 ranking going into the game, the team became the highest-ranked program that Texas has defeated since head coach Joey McGuire joined them three years ago.

Deion Sanders Jr.’s reason to support Texas Tech
If you think Deion Sanders Jr.’s reason behind supporting Texas Tech is a mere coincidence, then you are wrong. The Red Raiders head coach, Joey McGuire, and Sanders Jr. go way back, as he used to coach Deion Sanders’ eldest son at Cedar Hill High School. Which explains a lot regarding his fondness for McGuire and his team. Even McGuire has shown his love and admiration towards Coach Prime and his team after they entered Big 12.
“I’d like to welcome Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, and my good friend Deion Sanders to the Big 12 and Colorado Buffaloes. Known Deion for a long time. Excited that he’s in the conference,” Joey McGuire said, showing his excitement for the Buffs. Now you can understand the type of bond they share. McGuire also spoke about how Deion Sanders is the best parent of a player he ever coached.
As for Coach Prime, he, too, had something to say about McGuire before they face off next Saturday. “He was like the ‘Grand Poobah,’ the magna cum laude of the district of coaches,” Deion Sanders said, referring to the time McGuire coached his eldest son. “I’m definitely going to look him up to try to embrace with him. I’m just happy that I’m getting the opportunity to be on that stage with a man that I’ve respected for quite some time.”
