Is Diego Pavia the new underdog hero in college football after his stunning win over Alabama?

“Games like this change your life.” Preach, brother. There is a new star in the house and he ain’t from any of the big teams in the CFB. QB Diego Pavia is the new crazy and after the Bama game, we understand why. Vanderbilt stood on a 0-60 record against the top 5 teams on the AP polls. However, now, that has changed. Diego Pavia managed to go up against one of the strongest powerhouses in football and brought a dub back home.

Deion Sanders Jr. couldn’t stop himself from singing praises for the Dores QB. “Diego Pavia…. Bro has an incredible story! He was also supposed to come to Jackson State. Good game, You deserve it. Congratulations my brother!” Deion Jr. shared on X. He truly does deserve it. To think that this guy almost made it to Jackson State is wild. Vanderbilt had a rough start for the 2024 season. Before the Bama game, the team stood on a 2-2 run and was coming off of a disastrous loss to the Missouri Tigers.

Against Kalen DeBoer and Co. Pavia had one of the best games of his career. Landing 16 out of 20 passes and covering 252 yards, this guy was a beast and Bama’s defense couldn’t lay a finger on him. Imagine what this guy could pull if he landed with Coach Prime.

“It’s all in God’s timing literally from the jump,” Pavia was quick to mention during the post-game interview. Vanderbilt HC Clark Lea has been on the hot seat for a while. A few weeks back, we did put him on the list of coaches who could be looking at losing their jobs. With this win, Lea has secured a few more years on his contract.

While the media goes crazy over Vanderbilt and what they managed to get done today, we also gotta talk about how Bama ruined their shot at winning this game. Going against the Commodores looked like an easy task. More so because Kalen DeBoer and Co. were coming off hot after the win against the Bulldogs. However, fate was not on their side.

Everything that went wrong for Alabama

The first problem was former HC Nick Saban jinxing the entire game. See, no one likes to throw shade over Saban, but you gotta admit that he did mess up with his comments regarding Vanderbilt. Over on the Paul McAfee Show, Saban had noted that winning against Vanderbilt would be easy. Look how that turned out.

The second problem was the defensive line. Never in a million years had Bama fans thought that the team would give in so many turnovers and make so many mistakes. It was as if the star players of the D-line were empty shells of their former selves. The main upset was Malachi Moore and his tantrums. You cannot perform badly and then cry about it later. Let’s hope DeBoer and Co. learn something from and moving forward fix the problems which Vanderbilt managed to expose.
