Is Paul Finebaum pushing Deion Sanders too far, or is Coach Prime just playing it cool?

You see, Deion Sanders, as a visionary, is someone great. If we look at the entire Buffs program, it was pretty much irrelevant before Deion picked it up. Going from nothing to a $200 million valuation is quite a big task. However, despite having such a big camp with arguably 2 of the best players (Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter) on the roster does not automatically make you a good team. We saw the struggle they had during their 4-8 last season. But the point is, after all this, you might expect that Deion has probably changed as a person. However, the entire Denver Post drama proved that Coach Prime is still the same. And this entire wrath is soon going to fall on Paul Finebaum as well.

Love or hate Paul Finebaum, you have to agree that this man has some wild takes. On The Matt Barrie Show, recently, Finebaum called out Deion Sanders yet again. “But what concerned me more than anything else was the way Deion coached the game down the stretch. Is he in control of the sidelines?” Finebaum mentioned. This comes hot after the match against NDSU where we saw the Buffs struggle. Even though we had seen big talks coming regarding the revamped O-line and the defense, fans had the assumption that the boys could easily handle the Bisons.

However, that was not the case. The only notable plays were made again by Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders, and Shilo Sanders. Other than this, everything was a mess. The defense allowed the Bisons to capture around 157 rushing yards. Almost every time the defense failed to cripple QB Cam Miller. “I mean, they’re just firing away, giving the opponent an opportunity to come back and win the game,” Finebaum mentioned.

While what Finebaum said about Deion and Buffs is not wrong, we think Paul is definitely walking on thin ice. Because this ain’t even the first time he has called out Coach Prime during the 2024 season. On August 26th on ESPN Get Up, Finebaum called out Deion for banning the Denver Post columnist. Finebaum went on to call the entire move “disgraceful.” That ain’t all. Following this, he took a jab at Coach Prime on August 30th. On the Paul Finebaum Show, Finebaum noted, “I don’t think he’s as smart as everyone thinks he is.” His main take was that although Deion Sanders is quite gifted in coaching, the media places him on an ‘All-knowing’ pedestal. Deion still has to figure out a lot and we hope that the NDSU match will teach him something because when the Buffs go up against Nebraska a few days later, Coach Prime will need every blessing possible.

Cornhuskers are waiting for Deion Sanders

The 2024 season opener for Nebraska was something every other camp could only wish for. Against the Miners, the Cornhuskers managed to steal a massive 40-7 win. This solely happened because HC Matt Rhule had decided to revamp the entire offense of the team and we saw the results. QB Dylan Raiola had an amazing debut. Managing to land 2 TDs throughout the game and going for around 238 yards. The passing game was on point, and new kids like Jahmal Banks and Carter Nelson contributed to it.

Not only that, the defense was solid as well. The defensive front was pretty much a nightmare for UTEP. Nash Hutmacher and Ty Robinson managed to slip into the backfield and corner out the Miners QB with ease. Keeping all of this in mind, it’s pretty hard to say that Deion and the Buffs would win this match. Let’s hope Coach Prime makes some changes, else the team might end up with another 4-8 run.
