Is Deion Sanders' Colorado team truly impressive, or just benefiting from a weak Big 12?

Deion Sanders’ Colorado continues taking the bumps from all the fans and veterans alike for a sinking stat in week 8. Although they bridged the gap a bit in their latest stint against the Wildcats with an impressive 34-7 win, the heart-wrenching memory of the Kansas State reality still persists. Also, the beating heart of the Buffs’, Travis Hunter looked like anything but himself in a post-injury comeback this Saturday. While coach Prime tried to shut it down with his confident ‘Wonderful game, wonderful victory’ statement, his biggest critique, Jason Whitlock, not at all, bought that out.

Whitlock, in his usual charisma, dished Coach Prime a reality check. On the latest edition of his podcast, the veteran came out clean, saying, ”I believe 28-7 Deion and Colorado are benefiting from playing in a very suspect and weak Big 12.”

The bashing continued with the analyst’s sarcastic sting taking the lead, ‘Sanders is fool’s gold, and what Colorado is doing is fool’s gold go and yes they may win six seven, or eight games this year they may win nine I  don’t know but it’s not one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen it’s not that impressive to me given the way college football has changed this is a fool’s gold this is a reflection of the transfer portal and being able to just buy up talent.”

Despite Whitlock being Whitlock, it’s pretty visible how the injury bugs got the better of the Buffaloes in a crucial game. The half-presence of the important two-way star Travis Hunter couldn’t do justice to his name while Jimmy Horn Jr’s ongoing hiatus got the better of the team’s spirit.

The constant Shilo Sanders-Shedeur Sanders controversy was another hiccup on the bumpy road. Kansas State’s failure came off as a collective effect of all these negations. Hence, quite rightfully, the shades of Whitlock came into a head-to-head contradiction of what ESPN’s Paul Finebaum had to say.

ESPN mogul dodged all the unnecessary criticism surrounding Coach Prime

Deion Sanders took a lot in between the horrible suspense about Hunter’s availability and the nasty 28-31 loss where the Buffs got totally manhandled at the scrimmage, brutally exposing the sloppy defense and slow offense and a decent rebound in week 8. He received malicious criticism throughout, even after the win, as David Hale called him out for being a desperate validation seeker. While the streak continues, let’s be honest. Coach Prime did a great job since his last season drop. He is making Colorado look like a playoff team with a 5-2 record- far better than seven awful losses of the last year.

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum sees it and acknowledges it wholeheartedly. Going against the trend, the veteran gave Coach Prime his flower, saying, ”We should be appreciating and complimenting Deion Sanders for what he does on the field, not for the show. ” While seeing a very slim play-off hope, he believes the team ‘have a very narrow path to at least take a swing.’
