Can Sherrone Moore's recruiting magic turn Michigan's defense into an unstoppable force in 2025?

Sherrone Moore is doing unthinkable in the recruitment game. The Wolverines might not have a top-tier season this year, but seemingly, they are in no way missing out on next year’s challenges. To bring that vision into reality, Moore needs a deep evaluation of their mistakes so far. One hole under their belt that has been visible from the outside was the lackluster QB performance for most of the year. While one significant win over Michigan State has taken down the weight of the drastic slip from last year’s magic a bit, the heat against Moore and his approach is still there. But at least Moore is giving it his best shot to restore the pride, the faith, the honor. Can we then assume Colorado committed Alex Graham to be his next weapon on the card?

The Wolverines seemingly have a ton of momentum with Graham, a four-star defensive back in the 2025 class who can be a prized addition to Michigan’s stingiest defense. If the name rings a bell, you are a seasoned Michigan fan, and yes, you got it right. Graham is a Michigan native and previously honed his skill in high school football for Detroit Cass Tech. Now, with the Wolverines’ alluring 2025 dynasty, the old chap is likely to come back home as On3’s Steve Wiltfong spilled the bean, “They would still love to flip here at the end of the cycle Alex Graham, four-star cornerback committed to Colorado.”

”I was able to have a great conversation with (head) coach Sherrone Moore. He’s a really great guy. I feel as if the program is in great hands and is going to remain a top contender in college football, with him leading it,” the Detroit native said following a visit to the Wolverines camp earlier this year.

The No.3 QB in the state of Florida has clearly been keeping Michigan in his top 7 picks ever since the school made an early offer (the first to offer during Graham’s recruitment dawn).

However, the waves turned against the Wolverines in between as Deion Sanders and Co. successfully changed the mind of the young Florida prospect and earned a commitment during the latter half of April. But Michigan, as ever, didn’t give up. “Michigan’s way in the thick of it for those guys right now as well, so again, Moore and Company emphasize the secondary to get back to playing the style of defense that they want to play for years to come,” said Wiltfong, highlighting their edge over the big flips.

The QB issues continue to sting with tottering buzz over Bryce Underwood, but the defense is becoming a force to be reckoned with. Elite four-star cornerback Shamari Earls’s latest commitment spoke louder of that.

Michigan’s defense machine is only getting tighter for the rousing 2025

If you think Graham sounds like a far-fetched catch for Moore, think again. That’s because the Wolverines are the best at luring talents to their board, no matter how unconvincing they look from the outside. Sherrone Moore has some highly impressive negotiation skills, and he proved them, again and again, this season, adding one after another lofty name to the mix. Less than 24 hours after flipping paramount edge defender Benny Patterson from Cincinnati, the Wolverines sealed the deal with Shamari Earls.

To the huge buzz, Earls announced that he would be flipping his commitment from Kirby Smart and Georgia on Friday. Earls had a satisfying official visit to Michigan last weekend. So, the buzz was obvious for the eventual pick, But then, to make it an official reality is really a tall task for the Wolverines.

Earls’ addition will undoubtedly be an asset to Michigan as he is at his peak this cycle and Graham’s entry (if ever) as the CB will just be the perfect cherry on the cake the Michigan defense would love to flaunt.
