4-8. That was where the Buffs were at last year. And in all honesty, it wasn’t a good look. Deion Sanders had a lot of pride in what he had built, and it all crumbled down back in 2023. So, this year, Coach Prime has to make it count, and he isn’t gonna leave any stone unturned. The boys are standing on a 4-2 run right now, which is good enough, but it can be a heck lot better. Deion Sanders knows it and he also knows that roughing up the boys isn’t an option.
If you sit back and compare the 2023 Buffs with the current one, they aren’t similar at all. Yeah, the offensive line is still a hit-and-miss, but Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr., etc, have grown and become much more skilled. And so has the coaching staff. Back on Well Off Media, Deion Sanders mentions, “Not mean as you used to be.” Now, who do you think Deion directed the comment at? Well, it was assistant WR coach Jason Phillips.
It looks like the Wildcats game not only put Shedeur back in the spotlight but also managed to soften Phillips. The multiple injuries across the board really made the coach question everything. “I never had that situation happen to me before,” Phillips had noted while talking about the WR room. 4 different WRs were injured that day. Hunter and Horn aside, Terrell Timmons Jr. and Omarion Miller were also there.

Miller stepped up for the boys that day. This dude locked in 145 yards along with 8 catches, but the ACL took him out and it looks like he is going to miss out on the entire season. With Phillips taking this softer approach, Coach Prime’s mindset will also give the boys an edge. A few days back, Deion gave Shedeur Sanders and Co. a much-needed reality check before the boys hit the turf against Kansas State. “You learn a lot from successes. You don’t just learn from when you’re getting your bu-t kicked,” Deion had mentioned. There was no drama or harsh words. It was simple and effective.
Against Wildcats, while the Buffs did lose, Shedeur showed absolute domination. Despite losing Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn Jr in the first half because of their injuries, Shedeur stayed calm. This guy locked in 3 touchdowns along with 388 yards under his belt, and that too while playing behind an offensive line that kept crumbling like biscuits.
While eventually, the game did leave much to be desired, Coach Prime’s mindset worked out for the team. On a defensive front and in terms of making plays, the Buffs have continued to be next to the best on the list. The Rams game, the Baylor game, and even the Knights showdown; the boys stood tall. What remains now is how Deion Sanders and Co. tackle Arizona.

Comeback time for Coach Prime

Can Deion Sanders' revamped Buffs finally silence the critics and make a statement this season?

All of them are coming back. Hunter is ready, and so is Horn. Last weekend, Hunter barely managed to crack 30 yards and had only 1 tackle under his belt. Without him, both the offense and defense felt handicapped. This dude has always been the key playmaker.
From intercepting a pass from Rams QB and turning it into a 38-yard gain for the Buffs to pulling the same trick against a run-heavy team like the Knights, making a turnover, and then striking the iconic Heisman pose for the cameras. Horn, on the other hand, has been one of the fastest players on the Colorado offense. He has managed to connect with every important pass and has never let the QB down.

Deion is going to have both of them at his disposal this weekend. While it is advised that putting too much stress on Hunter won’t have a good outcome, we all also know that Hunter is not gonna go down without a fight. It’s comeback time for Coach Prime and Co.
